Reflections for Police Officer Gary Jonathan Buro

I learned of Officer Buro’s sacrifice in a class taught by his partner while I was in the academy. I thank Officer Buro for his service, and I know that his service nor his sacrifice will ever be forgotten. I pray for the family left behind that will struggle with his absence every day.

I am honored to be riding in the 2019 Police Unity Tour for and in the memory of Officer Buro. Officer Buro's sister resides in the town I work in, which makes the cause and ride personal to me.

May God Bless the Officer Buro and his entire family.

Gary was such a wonderful, warm person. I was brand spanking new out of the academy when i met Gary at MTS. I was not there very long before he retired from the NYPD and then this had happened. What a tragedy!

God bless Gary, his family and his partner Joe Diman. Joe presented in a session this afternoon at the VALEAC conference and he did a tremendous job sharing the details of the event and how he dealt with the devastating affects of the tragic event. Joe did an admirable job honoring the life and memory of his partner and friend by touching so many through his presentation. So sorry it happened but very glad I was able to attend the presentation and that I could participate in honoring Gary and Joe. God bless and thank you.

It's hard to believe 10 years ago today you answered the final call that fateful night and sacrificed your life in order
to serve and protect the citizens of Chesterfield County.
Time marches on and waits for no man. Rest in peace.
Keep guarding the streets of heaven as you guarded the
streets of earth. You will not be forgotten.

Gary,
It feels like yesterday when I met you for the first time with the NYPD. I still here your voice and remember all the good times patrolling the streets of Manhattan. The former cop from Florida who was quickly named SUNKIST will always be with me. May God be with you and your family. Rest in peace your friend Charlie

I just told a friend about how you used to greet me each day on the floor at roll call. I would come up from the locker room and you would already be there sitting alone on the back benches. You'd look up and greet me with a huge smile and then shout out my name like I was norm from Cheers. Everyone would look up from what they were doing but then go right back to being the busiest in the world and we would both have a laugh. It meant a lot to a young cop who was still finding his way, you always made me feel like I belonged and that I had someone great watching over me, thank you. I am sure you still watch over me now but just have better seats. You are missed Gary and I hope I have turned out to be half as good as you told me I would. Rest in Peace.
