Chavez, It has taken me over a year to do this. I know your watching over us, and I know that someone like you is in heaven. I still can't believe you are no longer here. A lot has changed since you left our office. I've been trying to keep your desk in place and your paperwork box were you left it. I wouldn't want for you to come back and be missing your spot. I miss the crazy stuff we used to do together (fun). And I know that god and you are watching over your family who loves you very much. Till we meet again.

Well Ed, it's "Cinco de Mayo". Growing up here on the border of Mexico, that day was always synonymous with fun...until last year. Now I have to remember it as the day we buried you on Taylor Rd.. I can't believe it's been a year already...time has really flown by.
We had a nice memorial service at your crash site last Wednesday. Valentin made a very nice memorial out of iron. He gave it to your family. Unfortunately, DOT won't allow us to put it at the site, so I think it may go to your Mom's house. It will be nice for her. Your mom and brothers were at the service, along with all of the guys out of your station. Little Edward is growing like a weed. It won't be too many more years that he'll be taller than you. When I look at him, I sure see you. Thanks for leaving us such a beautiful thing to remember you by. It was good to see everyone, although I wish we'd remember to get together at times other than funerals and memorials. I guess schedules just won't allow it. For me, it's nice to know that folks haven't forgotten my buddy Ed.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you. I don't think that will ever end. I don't hurt as much as I used to, but I sure do miss ya' buddy. I hope to see you again some day.
I guess I'll go for now, but we'll still talk occasionally. Keep everyone in line up there for me, OK?

This year your name will be carved into the wall in Washington D.C. B.J. and Matt will also be in your roster. We lost so many in the past year. Several of your fellow Troopers will be riding in the Police Unity Tour whose motto is: "We ride for those who died." We hope to see your family at the wall in D.C. Your brothers will also be riding with us in remembrance of you! We can't wait to meet them. Love to you and your family. Rest easy Brother, we have the watch.
