Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Jeremy Preston "Jay" Chambers

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Rest in Peace Brother, we have the watch from here.

To the family of Officer Chambers,

As we watched the news yesterday so many memories flooded our minds. Each time another hero is taken from us, we remember the helplessness, pain and disbelief we all felt when we lost Bob. I wish over the years we had learned how to take away the pain you all feel right now, but we haven't. All we know is that you have to live through it and depend upon your family, friends, community and brothers and sisters in blue for their love and support. They will be there....trust us.

So many many brave men and women have lost their lives serving not only their community, but their country, and now Office Chambers will join them in their heavenly home. We know he is at peace, patroling the streets of heaven.

Officer Chambers, you will always be remembered in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your unselfishness, helping victims of 911, and in performing your daily duty of serving and protecting your community.

Rest in peace Sir, knowing we are all very, very proud of you.

I have been blessed to know Officer Jeremy Chambers for many years as a friend. I would like all to know that he spent his life helping others and was proud to wear his badge with honor. In addition, he was a brave Volunteer Fire Fighter in his community. He was always there for his family, friends and community. This is a great lost for all and he will be missed very much.

There are no words that I can say to make things seem a little easier while all your friends and family go through this difficult time. You should just know that there are many people across the country that are thinking of you and are praying for your loved ones. You didn't deserve to be taken away so early from everyone. I just want to say thank you for all you have done. Although I did not know you, I read the articles on ksdk about how dedicated you were to your job and even 9/11. Thank you!

I grew up with Jeremy's older brother, who is also a police officer. Although I always knew Jeremy through his brother, I became to know Jeremy better when he joined the Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department, where he quickly attained the rank of Captain due to his knowledge, excellent service, and dedication. I remember Jeremy being hired by the Police Department and although he and I worked opposite shifts, I frequently heard his praises from other officers who did work with Jeremy. Jeremy was a true friend and always there when you needed a helping hand. I deeply mourn with the family at the loss of a fine Police Officer and a great friend. We'll miss you Jeremy.

May Godspeed be with the Prosecuting Attorney's Office to see that justice is served.
