Corporal Severns, You have served your city and your community with dignity and honor, we will carry on from here. To the family of Corporal Severns you all are in our thoughts and prayers. I had the pleasure of meeting Corporal Severns briefly last year after getting lost in the city of South Bend after a Notre Dame football game with my 8 year old son. I pulled up beside his scout car and showed him my shield and asked him for directions. I was expecting to be given directions to where I needed to go, but you told me to follow you and you would take me to where I needed to go. After getting there I pulled along side your scout car and thanked you for taking your time for your help. To the men and women of the South Bend Police Department hold your heads high as you all carry on. Rest in Peace Brother.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Officer Severns and his family. I cannot begin to realize what pain they are going through at this time. Officer Severns gave the utmost by protecting someone else. I ride with the American Legion Riders Post 308 and would like to dedicate my time on our upcoming Fallen Heroes ride to remember Office Severns. We perform this ride to honor all our fallen heroes from Iraq and Afganistan every year and this year we are including our local heroes (police and fire) also. Officer Severn gave his life serving the community of South Bend and protecting the people of that city. I know that he took an oath to "Protect and Serve" but probably never realized that he would give the most precious gift of all, his LIFE. I know that I will never take for granted everything that the law enforcement people do for our communities. I did not personally know Officer Severn but am proud that he served in a community so close to my home. I know that Scott will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. GOD HAS CREATED ME
to do Him some definite service
He has committed some work to me
which He has not committed to another
I HAVE MY MISSION
I may never know it in this life
but I shall be told it in the next
I AM A LINK IN A CHAIN
a bond of connection between persons
He has not created me for naught
I shall do good-I shall do His work
a preacher of truth in my own place
While not intending it
if I do but keep His commandments
THEREFORE I WILL TRUST HIM
whatever I am, I can never be thrown away
If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him
If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him
HE DOES NOTHING IN VAIN
He knows what He is about
He may take away my friends
He may throw me among strangers
He may make me feel desolate
make my spirits sink
hide my future from me-still
HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS ABOUT

Scott.. as I struggle to find the right words I know that there are none. Only time will heal grieving hearts and fond memories from the lives you have touched will allow you to live on. As my daughter laid the flowers at your memorial today, my family and I were reminded of the constant dangers that we as officers face both on and off duty. You are a true Hero and a credit to the community of South Bend and it's officers. While I dressed for work this evening I said a silent prayer for your family and co-workers knowing that you are safe in God's hands now. Rest easy brother, we have the watch now..

He took you from us on a Friday.
He didn't know you like we did. If only he had known how you have touched all of our lives in one way or another, how you could light up a room just by walking in, how your beautiful smile could make everyone smile, how your attitude about life, love and dedication to others was infectious, how everyone that was important to you knew it without question and felt honored because of it. He didn't know that taking you from us on that Friday, that he was taking away a part of us that can never be replaced. Yes he took you from us that Friday through an act of soulessness, but God has you now and he knows all of these things about you, and with that we can rest a bit eaiser. Your memory will live in our hearts forever, and cannot be taken from us on a Friday or any other day........

Having never gotten the chance to meet Corporal Severns, I still look at him as a HERO. A HERO for putting his life on the line, day after day, to protect others...others he might not have even known.
Hearing about bad things happening to good people makes me sick.
After seeing his patrol car parked outside of the police station, covered in flowers, pictures and cards, I felt saddened. Saddened that a mother and father had lost a child, a sibling has lost a brother, a department had lost a fellow officer, and A COMMUNITY HAS LOST A TRUE HERO!!
Rest in Peace Corporal Severns and know that you will always be remembered as a HERO.

Corporal Severns: You are now a blue angel watching over all your fellow officers left here. What a hero you are!! You truly epitomize the words from the California Highway Patrol's oath "....and lay down my life rather than swerve from the path of duty." That you CHOSE to step in front of your friend also brings to mind remembrance of the biblical "no greater love than to lay down his life for his fellow man." Surely you were greeted in heaven by angels dancing because of your goodness.
I pray your family is comforted by the knowledge that you were a cop's cop and died a hero. Perhaps this site will bring them some comfort too.
Bless your family and give them peace,
To the men and women of the South Bend Police Department: Please remember your brother every day so that his loss is not in vain, for only YOU remembering him with every breath will make his loss easier to bear. Keep your courage up, your heads held high and your hearts pure. We look to you to keep this young warrior in mind every day and you will be strong and blessed.
We should all thank Scott and the other officers for the risks they take and the sacrifices they so willingly make, every day for all of us in every community in this nation. We are privileged to live among such heroes.
May God bless you all,

Our family would like to express our condolences to Officer Steverns family and brother officers in the
South Bend police department and throughtout the country.
We just watched the silent procession and it just hit home
again what wonderful officers we have in our community. People need to thank your police for a great job everyday
not just when something like this happens. We had seen Officer Steverns at the Cove for a baseball game. He had a great smile and was so kind. He made the ultimate sacrifice
protecting someone and he is such a hero for doing what he
had to. I know that he is now in heaven and will continue
to protect and watch over others. May you rest in peace
