Scott,
Like so many others who have written here about you, my memories with you span years. From the LaSalle days of "Sev-dog" to the recent years when we would joke about it all. I recall the days at the beach when you would tease me (with that twinkle you always got in your eyes)for "being the mom" because I packed sandwiches (although you would always eat them...), to the cookouts at your house, to the nights out, and to all the days in between. You were always a true friend Scott and we are just a few of the many who already miss you more than words can say. Rest in Peace. You are our hero. ~ Sara, Will & Tyler

We never knew, Scott Severns, but, in so many ways he has touched our lives, along with many others. He has brought together a community that was separated, people have bonded because of the loss of this special person. HE HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE.
God Bless the family and friends of Mr. Scott Severns.
Our thoughts, and prayers, are with you all.

We are all so saddened to lose such a fine officer. Scott is truly a hero and even though I didn't meet him personally I feel as if I know him by reading and listening to all of the wonderful things that have been said about him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his police family. I hope all of you officers out there know that the majority of the citizens of South Bend look up to you and thank you for all you do for us every day. Rest in peace, Scott.

I am grieving for this heroic young man who died doing what he had pledged to do - protect others. If only things could be reversed and he could still be with us. I pray for the repose of his soul and for his grieving family and friends. May it comfort them to know that people like me whom they don't even know care so very much. May God bless them.

To Corporal Scott Severns, his loved ones and his fellow officers in the South Bend Police Dept.:

I was so saddened to learn of the tragic death of another young officer who was brutally murdered in yet another senseless crime that devastates all those who loved Scott.

May his family be comforted by the warm embrace of their law enforcement family, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with you. As a third generation police family, the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Severns law enforcement family must be very large indeed.

To Scott, please know that your life is honored and revered today. Reading all the loving reflections left by those who cared for you gives us an understanding of what a good and honorable man you were and of the high esteem with which you are held.

My heart is with your family and you are all in our thoughts and our prayers. I share your agony. My youngest son was fatally shot pursuing two robbery suspects on April 23, 2005 although he was not pronounced brain dead until the following day.

Scott, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Corporal Scott Severns. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Scott gave to his community and the citizens of Indiana, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 23, 2006.

Scott,

Your job meant the world to you and I respect that more then anything. You when you did something you put 110 percent in it and wouldn't give up. You were always there for my family and I, and that's something I will never forget. In my eye's you were a Hero, but now everyone else can see you for the man you are. You were not only a Hero to me but to everyone else also. I think you are a wonderful man inside and out, and anyone who knew you would be honored. I love you Scott and I will truly miss you with all my heart. I'll see you in heaven some day!

It was my pleasure and I am proud to have been a member of the South Bend Police Department to which you have brought so much honor and dedication.
I am sure your father "Denny" was and is very proud of his son. Below his hard exterior he is a caring person and it is obvious that this trait was passed on to you in an abundant amount.
Scott, you will always be remembered as caring for other people first, at the risk of making the ultimate sacrifice.
May the Lord Bless you, your family, all Law Enforcement Officers, and rest of the people you so proudly, and capably cared for.

You will remembered always,

Scott, you were friends with our children, Brian and Anne
at LaSalle High School. We moved to SC before you graduated
from HS, but we got to know you when you came to SC for
an upcoming tryout with the Cincinnati Reds and stayed with
us and then when you worked with Brian. We never had the
opportunity to know you as a policeman, but kept up with
you through Brian. We feel like someone has taken on of our
own from us. In our eyes, you are a real HERO, and
our hearts and prayers go out to your extended family, and
the South Bend Police Department. They will ALL miss you
terribly, as will Brian. Just knowing that the Lord has
you in HIS hands, and that you are at peace, is doing a
lot to help us through this.

FINAL INSPECTION
The Policeman stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much. But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.

"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor - they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.
Amen.

Scott, rest easy brother, we have the watch.

I am a high school friend of Scott's and have so many wonderful memories of him. I am living in NC now and won't be able to make it back for his funeral but wanted to express my condolences to his family and friends. Scott was one of a kind and my memories of him will always include his fun loving demeanor and genuine concern for what is best for others. I will never forget all the happiness Scott brought to my life. He will be missed!
