Reflections for Corporal Scott Lee Severns

Words cannot express how much we will miss you…your quirky little smile (always making people wonder what you’ve been up to – typical little boy). We’ll miss your feeble attempts to “mosh” at rock concerts, your stylish clothes and just plain hangin’ out. It was in your blood, Sev, and always will be. No one can take that away from you, your family or the ones who knew you best. You’ve made a mark on so many people and for that we have the most precious memories.

Now you’re really flying high, Superman! I just can’t wait for your return.

We love you!

Scott, you were TRULY one of the Good Guys. Your loss has touched me deeply as I am married to one of the Good Guys. The world was a better place with you in it and will be in sad shape with you gone. Please watch over your brothers and sisters in brown and blue, they need another angel on their side.

Another brave soldier in the never ending war on criminals in our country has been killed by a cowardly enemy. May the ruthless criminal responsible for this murder be brought to justice and sentenced to the most severe penalty. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. We are proud of you and thankful for all of your service. May God bless you and your family.

Corporal Scott Severns, I heard this song on the radio today and thought of you. Rest High on the Mountain that you will no doubt be on watching over us all.

"Go Rest High on that Mountain" sung by Vince Gill

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered 'round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels' faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing

Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son.

i am a CVP for the Indianapolis police department and i work with police officers all the time and get close to them they are like my family. i did not know CPL. Severns

But are family does have a family friend that is a South Bend police Officer. I also know how it feels to lose an officer that you get close to becaue i was close to officer Timothy Jake Larid the ipd officer killed in 2004. i also almost lost a good friend that i was really close to that i did ride alogs with and he is also and IPD officer. it was Officer Michael Antonelli. I thank CPL. Severns is a hero and eventhow i dont know him i still respect and thank all police for the altimate sacrifice.

I know God has a reason, I won't pretend to understand it, I guess that's not my place. I have to keep telling myself that evil was just getting the upper-hand and He needed another warrior at His side in Heaven.

I remember the exact moment that I knew for sure you were gone. Only by closing my eyes and picturing Randy and Paul welcoming you with a smile and hug did I manage to force myself to breathe, only by picturing your grin full of "chiclets" and the way you used to cackle when you burnt me with an insult or joke, was I able to survive the physical pain of having a piece of my heart torn away.

I don't know how we'll do it without you. How can we go on each day knowing you won't be here? How can we go out to Simeri's, Fire Rock, the Landing knowing you won't roll in like you own the place, parking that Tahoe right up front? What will I do without your "Whadup Haz?"

I don't know how we'll do it without you, but we will. We will do it in the memory of you. We will laugh because you laughed. We will sing because you had the guts to do it. We will succeed because you excelled at everything you ever did. We will do it in honor of the incredible man you were. We will do it because we need to and because you would have it no other way.

You always looked up to Superman but I have to tell you, Scott Severns, Superman has nothing on you.

I love you now and forever. Your's will be the first face I search for when God calls me home. Save a spot and a Corona Light for me -- we'll have some catching up to do.

Godspeed, Little Fish, Godspeed .....

"friend" is appropriate but not adequate

For Scott and all of his family and friends,

As a dispatcher, we know the voices much better than the officers/firefighters/medics themselves. I have heard the changes in their voices when they are tired, bored, or irritated. I include each and every one of them in my prayers every night because I have also heard the voice of an officer in trouble. This is when I feel the closest to that voice on the other end of the radio.
You can compare it to a mother who knows the different cries of their own child. As a mother, I can run to the voice and help my child but as a dispatcher all I can do is the best job possible to get that officer the help he/she needs as quickly, and safely, as possible. And then I hold my breath. I wait for the next voice of a person who is helping the one in need. This is when I thank God for being a part of this extended family. For giving me the gift that He has bestowed on me.
I know in my heart that my friends Paul, Brian and Tommy were there to welcome Scott into Heaven. They are just a small part of the heroes in Heaven who will continue to watch over their family and friends. They will see the lights from the hundreds of emergency vehicles as they wind through the streets. They will always be with us.
Thank you Scott for being a Hero in the true sense of the word. Thank you to his family for raising such a man who has become a Hero to many. And most of all, thank you to all of the others who remain and continue the dedicated and tireless work that you do. God bless you.

Scott, I have laughed so many times because of you. I have been angry so many times because of you-but never lasted long. I loved going to roll call because of you. I have felt safe on so many calls because of you. You truly are an unforgettable person and a wonderful friend and thoughts of you will be with me, your family, friends, fellow officers, citizens (and even the not-so-upstanding ones) forever!
God bless you Scott. You will ALWAYS be remembered and admired.

Webster’s Definition of a Hero:
1 a : a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b : an illustrious warrior c : a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d : one that shows great courage

Our Definition of a Hero: SCOTT SEVERNS

You are a Hero in every aspect of the word! Evil confronted you on that Friday night and you did not cower. When most people would have put their tale between their legs and ran like the wind, you stood toe to toe with the monster and gave the fight of your life!
You will never be forgotten for not only what you did that dreadful night, but for what you did your entire police career. You had so many excuses why you could have just given up, but you didn’t. Your relentless pursuit of criminals is what made you who you are.
We will never find anyone more worthy of wearing the patch!

Rest in peace brother….you are “ears down” from here on out!

As a community member we know we are protected as long as the police are visible. But we never really take the opportunity to say "THANK YOU".

THANK YOU for your service to more than just an entire community, your friendship to the same community, and to all the memories that you obviously so freely and unknowingly provided.

And finally, THANK YOU to all those that serve with Cpl Severns to ensure our safety. In times of confusion and frustration listen and you will hear the wisdom, kindness and dedication from one of Indiana's finest.

May your family find peace in knowing that everything you did, you did because they taught you well. You did right by their teachings, and when God gives us a child unfortunately there's no guarantee that our child will live beyond our years, HE gave us the greatest gift of all - and to the Severns family, Scott was the greatest gift of all. Not only are you lucky to have had such a wonderful son, but the entire community was lucky enough to have had the kindness and warmheartedness of your son. He's served his purpose, he's touched many lives, and he's gone home. He served his time in hell, now he rejoices in heaven with all the other heros that have gone on before him and those that will unfortunately follow.

From one parent to another that has lost a child way before their time, It never makes sense and it never gets easy. But we learn to live with the accomplishments and the wonderful memories that we were blessed with.

May you find peace in your heart in knowing that your selflessness provided us with his selflessness.

If I close my eyes, I can see. I can see you walking into the radio room with that grin on your face knowing you got a 'bad guy'off the street. If I sit and listen, I can hear. I can hear your voice calling out a pursuit. And now I feel. I feel the emptiness, and pain in my heart from losing a brother. Never will I forget you Sev - Never.

Scott,
I would never have believed that when I saw you on Dyngus Day, that it would be the last time. Thank you for your service to our community, and know that you will be missed by all that were a part of your life, whether daily or only once in a while. Keep an eye on all of us still here on earth; we still need you to watch over us.
Rest in Peace, Scott.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death and though I mark on duty, my calls unknown, I fear no evil, for the majority are with me, nor do I worry of my own safety, all of this I do for the citizens of my community.

Though I have made mistakes, accept me, as I accept you and show me the way …..Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

REST IN PEACE BROTHER .. watch over your family, friends and fellow Officers to keep them safe.
