Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Corporal Scott Lee Severns

Sev,
You were and always will be a wonderful man, a Hero, that no one will ever be able to forget. The only explanation for why you left us so soon must be that God needed you to guard Heaven's Gate. God speed Sev ---- WE will always remember!

Civ Dawn Wolfenbarger
SBPD Dispatcher, sister of two officers

April 28, 2006

A bitter wind has blown our way
a taste of sorrow rides on high
another cop has paid the price
and made the ultimate sacrifice

When Death is left the final task
to take us from this mortal coil
unexpected it always is
the senseless act which ends his toil

We stand and grieve on grim parade
our brother whom most never knew
a string of lights will lead the way
down roads moist with mourning dew.

Brothers we, all stand in line
as pipers play Amazing Grace
and contemplate the life we've led
for in the end we all bleed blue

Scott,

As I read your reflections, I can see that you are quiet a character, a man of virtue and are truely missed by all. You're a HERO! Rest in peace, Sir! You will never be forgotten.

Police Officer

April 28, 2006

On that night our greatest fear became a reality. First that they thought it was a police officer, and then that it was you. Although we wanted to die inside each set to task to get you help as fast as we could. Since that time we have all played it over and over in our minds: could we have done something different, but it was not meant to be.

I have asked "why" so many times in the past days....perhaps this is why....BECAUSE YOU WERE A HERO! You never asked why, you never hesitated, you sprang into action. It was your nature to serve and protect; no matter the cost.

Please rest knowing we are all so proud to call you "OUR HERO"

I had the pleasure of dispatching for 5.5 years on the midnight shift at the SBPD with Cpl. Severns. Always the professional, and always one of those to remember those of us in dispatch working alongside. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and to my former co-workers in dispatch...

Although I did not know you, you are my brother officer and for that I mourn your loss. There is no greater sacrifice than to die in the defense of another. You are a hero in every sense of the word. I pray that your rest with God be long and peaceful. In valor there is hope.

I stopped by the SBPD station late Thursday night to view the many flowers and items place near Coporal Severns sqaud car. I sometimes consider myself to be a tough person but I walked back to my vehicle with watery eyes and a feeling of deep sorrow. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Severns family and friends.

Reality

Imagine how our world would be
If every police officer quit
Turned in their gun, turned in their badge,
Just finally had enough of it.

No respect, no loyalty,
No appreciation of all they do,
They’d give their lives for all of us,
These wonderful officers of “Blue”.

Kicked at, spit on,
Punched, stabbed and shot,
Everyday assaults on officers,
Done…without thinking a second thought!

Our laws are in favor of criminals,
There’s always some loophole in their case,
Out again to commit more crimes and murders
…creates pain, that we, the family and friends
…in time will never erase.

Why should they do it?
Why take the risk?
Why put their life on the line?
Subject their loved ones to endless suffering,
When their precious life is lost while fighting crime.

More murders, more kidnappings, more robberies and rapes,
Just to mention a few,
Please ask yourself how life would be,
If there were NO officers in Blue!

Would you do it? Could you do it?
And for how many…would YOU give it all?
Rewards are a 21 gun salute, a Medal of Honor,
And your name gets added to the Wall.

Think about it. Why are they here?
And why do some hate them so?
Because they enforce the laws that put convicts and murderers
In jail serving time, or on “Death Row”.

All give some and some give all,
It’s a risk they chose to take:
To put their heart and soul in it,
To put their lives at stake.

So, please take a moment,
Please give it deep thought,
Think of what “you can do”…

To help show respect,
To help follow the laws,
So we’d quit losing our Heroes in Blue!

Fallen Officers Remembered

April 27, 2006

While I did not know Corporal Severns, I still feel very saddened by the tragic events that ended his life. No words can express how grateful I am to know that officers like Corporal Scott Severns risk their lives every day so that I may be safe in my community, so that my child can play outdoors without fear, so that I can sleep peacefully each night.

Thank you to Corporal Severns' parents for raising such a wonderful, caring, selfless human being. Please know that he will always be remembered, always in the hearts of a thankful community.

Corporal Severns, may you rest in peace. Please watch and protect us from above. You are truly an angel.

A thankful citizen

The clock of life is wound but once
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour
Now is the only time you own
Live, love, toil at will
Place no no faith in time
For the clock may soon be still.

Scott, You will be in my heart forever.

Thank you Scott for your sacrifice. I would also like to extend my thanks to his fellows Officers. I know that your job is hard, I know that you are always willing to do it and that job sometimes it is ridiculed by the very people that you put your life on the line for also know that you are all my friends some of you are my family no matter if I get pulled over for speeding, running a red light, or even running a stop sign. I know that you aren’t doing that just because you are bored but because you care about the community and every one that lives and visits here. you are all wanted and loved by the community though I am unable to attend the Mass one is being offered for Scott down at St. Tomas Aquinas Church at Purdue University in West Lafayette.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Corporal Severns.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect your friend and the public despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless act.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

You died doing what you did best- being a police officer; protecting those you cared for. We can't begin to understand why we've lost you.

You were our friend, our Simeri's, Landing, and Karoke buddy, our Superman. Wearing pink skirts and costumes at Halloween won't quite measure up!

Our hearts are broken at our loss. Our prayers go out to your family and fellow officers.

Rest in peace Sev- You'll never be forgotten!
