Scott, my heart ached when I heard the news last Sunday morning of your passing. On several occasions over the years I had the opportunity to get to know you, and I know you were one of the best police officers out there. You were the definition of a policy officer, and we have lost a wonderful, selfless person. You are truly a hero in my eyes and I thank you for protecting and serving this community. We will miss you.

I work in and with law enforcement everyday and far to often hear of tragedies such as this. People who choose to work in public safety careers are a special breed and after finding out about Scott I have a renewed appreciation for all those who have fallen and for those still serving to protect others. Though I have not seen Scott since high school his picture reminds me of the confident strut he had walking the halls at LaSalle. Looking back I know that he was the perfect candidate to be in law enforcement and he proved that in the way that he died. My sincerest condolences I send to Scott's family and his fellow Officers.

I want to express my gratitude to such a fine officer. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and comrads of Corporal Severns. Today you will take your final ride through the city that you served and protected. It is just a shame that it is also the city in which you were so wrongly taken from this world. I know that you will be missed. God be with your on your final journey. You are a true Hero!

I heard you pushed her out to the ground and stepped in front of her - undoubtedly to prevent her from being hit by a bullet. You are awesome, man. You epitomize what a hero should always be. Rest easy, hero. I promise you that you will never be forgotten.

I went yesterday to say farewell to a hero. For two and a half hours all I could do was look around at officers and civilians coming and going, shedding tears, exclaiming "I can't believe we're doing this again". I can't believe it either.
My black ribbon is tied tight and my Superman 2018 is proudly displayed on my rear car window, never to be removed, never forgetting one of SBPD's finest.
Rest in peace knowing you did your job to perfection all the way to the end.
You ARE a hero.

I just want to send my prayers to the Severns family and of law enforcement. My family had viewed the police car memorial, and we were impressed with the support from the people. However it is very disturbing too us that our children do not respect our law enforcement who are here to serve and protect.

I am a waitress at the Volcano Restaurant in SB, Scott was a regular here, I would always have a great time with Scott when he can in, lots of laughter, if it wasn't Chicken Parm then it was the "Randy Moore Special" and as Scott would say, don't forget my extra chicken! I want to thank you Scott and each officer who puts their life on the line everyday for protecting me, I sit and watch as you order your meal, and most times, never even get to take the first bite because a call comes in and you have to go, your dedication to your job and our city will never go unnoticed in my eyes. Scott, you join your brothers now, with You, Randy, Paul and the other Blue Angels, God has some Police Force! I will Miss You Scott!

Your immediate instinct to protect a friend and lay your life on the line speaks volumes to the kind of person Scott Severns is and was. My heart goes out to your family, friends and fellow police officers. They have a difficult task in saying good bye. They will all have their memories of you and can be proud of the person you were. I cry and pray for all of you. Seeing the public support is a real tribute to Scott and the kind of police department we have in South Bend. All of them are dedicated in the performance of their duties and are doing their best to 'Serve and Protect.' May God be with you all and give you the strength to get through this. May you also smile when you remember Scott.

I did not know you, Scott but the life of the woman you saved will surely carry on with new meaning and purpose. Your example of the highest love in this world is a memory for us all to live by. My heartfelt prayers are with your families - your natural family and your brotherhood of Police family.
