Reflections for Corporal Scott Lee Severns

My heart goes out to scott's family and fellow officers. Scott paid the ultimate price. We will remember you as a hero. I was born and raised in South Bend and just visited in March. Police officers from SBPD were my mentors and guardians when I was growing up in the early 70's so SBPD officers hold a special place in my heart.

Dear Friends and Family of Cpl. Scott Severns,

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Cpl. Severns but am very sad over his senseless death. I want all that knew Scott the best that it gives comfort to us that didn't know him when you tell little stories about him. It's very clear to me that he was a very good cop and even a better friend. I assure you all that he is very proud of every one of you. Always know that he is watching over you. I know that he is going to be greatly missed. Scott and each one of you are forever in my prayers.

God Bless You All,

A Citizen

Yet another horrible tragedy. Corporal Severns died protecting another person, not just because it was his "duty", but because it was the "right" thing to do and he had the courage to do it. Very few can say that! We all started in this profession because we "want to help" people, not because we are looking for glory or thanks--that comes way too infrequently to keep us in this line of work.

It's nice to see all of the supportive comments left by the citizens of South Bend. Hopefully they will continue their public support for their officers long after the horror of Scott's death fades from the headlines. This continued public support would be a lasting memorial to Scott and every other officer who has made the ultimate sacrifice in protecting the public. Remember, the cost to their families paid can never be repaid.

God Bless Scott, his family, all of his friends, and his South Bend PD family.

My heart goes out to the family, co-workers, and friends of Cpl. Scott Severns. It feels like it was just yesterday that we graduated from the academy(Class 97-130). Hearing and sharing stories from several officers of our graduating class on April 28,2006 shows what an impact you made on everybody. May God bless and keep you safe in your new journey.

My most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Corporal Severns. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

This is a very painful journey that none of us were prepared to take. Please take comfort in knowing that you do not walk this path alone, but with many others who have endured similar losses. We are all in this together.

Thank you, Corporal Severns, for your service and ultimate sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in eternal peace, forever safe in the arms of the angels.

To your family,friends and you,

I never met you but i feel like i know you. You made the world a better place to live. During these kind of times there are no words to say to ease the pain that you feel for the loss of your loved one, but in time it will get easier always remember he is looking down on you and he will always be with you in one way or another. Always remember the memories you had with him and don't forget the little things, like the way he smiled, and his laugh. I will keep you in my prayers.

Sev,it has been over a week and it still does not seem real. I still wait for my friends to come home from work with stories about you. I think Friday was one of the hardest days of my life and everyone eles for that matter. You really did die a true "HERO". I know in time that it will get easier, but for now it is still really hurts all of us. Take care up there and know that you are loved and missed greatly.

To the Family of Scott Severns:

None of you know me, but I just want to say that I pray for you all everyday. My dad is in law enforcement and I worry for him everyday. This is the worst that can possibly happen, and my heart goes out to you all. After reading all these reflections and seeing the news this past week, one thing I'm sure of is that the world is a better place because of Scott. And although I don't know you, my van is wearing a black ribbon to pay my respects to Scott. I hope that time will heal your wounds. I will be praying for you.

I never worked the same shift as Scott, and didn't have much contact with him. But I've enjoyed hearing friends' stories of him over the past week and feel like I really missed out on the chance to know a charming and funny guy. A person's character can be measured, in part, by his friends. I know a few of Scott's friends well enough to think highly of them, including Al who eulogized him so beautifully. I feel sorry for all of us, but can't express adequately how sorry I am for his family and close friends.

Sev made a comment to me on Dingus day, couple weeks ago, that I owed him a beer. Instead he bought Tate Ryans and I that beer. I said I'll get the next round. I still owe you that beer. I will always remember Scott's smile that day (and every day when I saw him.) "To Sev" is what I vow to toast and I will set one beer on the bar for you. You won't be forgotten. May God keep you at his side.
