WE STILL PRAYING FOR YOU!!!

July 30, 2006

Micheal, You once told me that "sometimes God has other plans" and now I know what you meant by that.

I know that your family still grieves, as do I, but I also rejoice in having known you. God had a special plan for you.I miss you and can't wait to see you again someday.

Lil Mike man I don't know were to begin with you. So many memories between us through church, when I was with jackson county explorers and when I was a pascagoula explorer. I guess you can say is that reality really has not set in yet even though it has been 3 months sence the accident, I don't want to beleive it, i still want to flip open my phone and call you and it just makes me tear up when i'm flippin through my phone and I see your name. I'll never forget that night at youth when chad, drew, and myself got saved at faith united methodist. You stood there over our shoulders praying with us with that comforting smile and touch you always had. I also never forget my first day with PPD and it was your first or second week as a jailer and you walked into the radio room looked down and saw me and said "boy what the heck are you doing here and in that uniform," and my responce to that was, "sittin here lookin pretty durrr," and with that crooked smile you looked at me and said, "God don't like liars," we laughed for a few and then you told me to come with you and you would show me around. We went to the jail area and sat down and talked for atleast an hour or two. i asked you why in the world was you wearing a cop uniform and not in the church. Lil' Mike's responce to that was that when he applied to Pascagoula there was 5 opening at a department that only has opening when someone retires as Mike said. Lil' Mike saw this as a sighn from Jesus to go into Law Enforcement. I will miss all those day's out on patrol riding around with you. You always makeing several turns and tryin to get me lost then throwing out the dreded officer down call and say now were are we, were is the officer that's down, and what's the fastest way to them. Rolling around in 90+ temp with windows down no A/C because if someone yelled help we wouldn't be able to hear them otherwise, and one thing that still sticks out in my mind today is the day we was out on patrol and you looked at me and asked me if I have ever asked God what he wanted me to do with my life, i told you no and you told me to go home and pray and if law Enforcement was what he steered me toward then i better go after it 110% but to listen to him. Now today I hope and pray that i will become half the father, husband, and officer you are and I will be A ok for the rest of my life. It'sad to know the last time I talked to you was when i passed you at the end of 14th one day when you was waiting to catch a funeral escort and i called you to see how everything was going. Mike I miss you everyday and not a day has gone by that I have not thought about you I love you to death and I will do anything for your family. Please watch over me and R.I.P till the day when it is also my time to come home to heaven, and walk a beat with you on heavens streets.

Rest in Peace Motorman. You are not forgotten.

Motor Officer D.Johnson
Metro Nashville Police Dept.

June 19, 2006

The Motorcycle Officer's Poem reads as follows:
It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.
Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.
They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble; they ride out of our sight.
Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.
So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes; you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

Brother we were there the day we laid you down to rest in peace and keep the Streets of Heave safe for us Brother. Till we meet again.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Patrolman Byrd, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading all the reflections left for Michael, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Michael's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Michael's life was about so much more than the way he died. Micheal will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Patrolman Byrd, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
