Dearest Sgt.Burke: How inadequate "thank you" seems in the aftermath of your death. Officers never hear those words often enough. I hope every one who reads these reflections will take those words to heart. I am sorry for the loss of this fine sergeant and I pray his fiance, family and co-workers find comfort knowing that so many care about his devotion to duty and his tragic loss.

You DCMPD Officers: Keep your heads high and know that by remembering Sgt. Burke and keeping him in your hearts, he is only a breath away. What a special man he was...to have worried about crime in his community while he was off duty!!! Remember him so his death is not in vain!!

And know there are those of us who appreciate your doing such a thankless job. Thanks for keeping us safe when we have been in DC.

Bless you all and hugs and love to ease your grief,

Your new Aunt in California,

Aunt LoVae
