There are people you meet in all walks of life. None can have a more lasting effect on you than those you serve with, those with whom you share your time in the trenches.

Joe has served both his Country and the County in which he was raising his family.

He was a consummate professional. It was a privilege to work along side a person of his caliber. I will miss him and his humor.

To his family, I give my most heartfelt thanks and gratitude. Nothing can be said or done to replace him. Just try to take comfort in knowing that we loved our brother in our own ways, and will never forget him or his sacrifice.

Peace be with you Joe.

Everytime I pull up this website, I pray that there will not be another officer's name added, but there always is. It is even harder when the officer is from your home state. Your family is in my prayers. Our family sympathizes with you all. May God comfort you in your time of loss. Deputy Whitehead died a hero for his sacrifice. Matt. 5:9 says "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God." Deputy Whitehead was truely a peacemaker.

A Part of America Died Today

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
A Part of America Died Today.
