I had the great pleasure of meeting Jo on two occasions when our paths crossed during drug investigations. Jo was always helpful and always on top of his game. I feel honored to have met this man and to have shook his hand on these two ocassions. You have not only touched the people of Bibb County with your stead fast dedication for your job but the entire state and nation. It was an honor to know you and I pray for your family and the members of the Bibb County Sheriffs Office. Rest in peace brother. We will take it from here.

My heart saddens when I think about the phone call that early morning. How I thought not JW. I initially thought I was having a bad dream until it was confirmed by my husband and the 5AM news. I still remember the first time I worked with you and the drug unit. We were executing a warrant on the east side of Macon. Afterwards we were talking on the street when some local came by and hollered “UNLEADED!” You looked at me and said that’s a perfect name for you. I will always remember how you loved your work. How professional you were even when dealing with the “thugs of the street.” I know many of us who have worked with you are having a hard time dealing with your loss. My prayers go out to your wife, kids and the officers of Bibb County Sheriff’s office. Brother, friend, co-worker, fellow officer, you will be missed, but you are in a better place.

Brother Joseph, I was so priviledged to have known you. You were a fine human being and a fine officer. My sympathy goes to your wife and kids, whom I have had the priviledge to know. I will never forget the day that my autistic son Brian wandered away and you brought him to my home safely, for that and many other things that you did that touched peoples lives in a positive way, and above all the lives you saved just by being a good officer and doing a job that most average people would turn down due to its dangers, I say Thank you. It was not in vain. Rest in peace we will miss and remember you Joseph. You have left an empty space in our neighborhood that can never be filled.

I talked with Joe the night of his untimely death. I got off work and he and his drug squad were about to search a house. I told Joe that I would see him later. I use to speak to Joe when he came by the sheriff's office to work out at the gym. I will miss you Joe. your family are in my prayers. Your ultimate sacrifice will not be forgotten. God bless, Jason.

First and foremost my deepest sympathy to Joeseph's family. He loved you and wanted to make this world a better place for you. He would also want you take peace in knowing that he is now watching and protecting you from above. Joe will always be in your heart as you were in heart the night he was taken you and from us at the Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Whitehead was a man of courage and conviction. He believed and loved what he was doing the night his life was taken. The one thing I remember most about him is that everytime we saw each other he made a point to say something encouraging to me. Even though I never worked with him directly, I had the feeling that if I ever needed his hand, he would have lent me his arm to help me. He believed in making Bibb County safe not just for his family, but for all of the citizens of Bibb County, GA. Joeseph is an outstanding role model for everyone of us, from seasoned officers to the rookie officers. Rest in Peace my Brother and friend.
