March 28, 2006

Deeply sorrowful, I leave a reflection about another brave soldier killed by a cowardly enemy. I hope the community will show appreciation for the sacrifice Deputy Whitehead has made, and outrage for this violent attack. To the citizens in this community, I ask that you do your civic duty and punish these ruthless criminals for the brutal murder of this decent husband and father. With swift justice, sentence these murderers to the most severe penalty. Deputy Whitehead, may the memory of your heroism, service and sacrifice remain forever. May God bless you, your family and fellow officers in the Bibb County Sheriff's Department.

Joe was the type of person that would always give a helping hand to anyone. I was new to the department when I met him coming in to interview a prisoner. He sat and talkto me for 10 or 15 minutes asking how I liked it and just getting to know me. He also helped me out alot with my shooting at the range, but he never treateed me like a "Rookie". To him if you wore the uniform you were an equal, regardless of time and experience. He was always happy to share his with you.
Joe you always touched everyone you came in contact with. You made them a better person for it. That is why I know when you got to heaven God had a special place for you at his right hand. Watch out for us on high, like you did while you were here. You are missed, and even though we hardly knew each other I am exponential proud to be able to call you Brother.

To the family of Deputy Joe Whitehead, I pray that God will give you peace and sustain you through this tragedy. Please know that Joe is at the right hand of God, having joined the ultimate force in Heaven. From the reflections I've read here, his untimely death was not in vain, and he died doing what he was called by God to do for his family and the citizens of Bibb County. As law enforcement families, we all know the risks involved in the job, yet we support these men and women for believing they can make the world around us a better place....and we love them so for it. To Deputy Whitehead, I thank you for a job well done and for your paying the ultimate price so that others could be safe. You will never be forgotten.

I HAD ONLY KNOWN JOE FOR 7 YEARS, AND THE ONE THING I WILL REMEMBER MOST ABOUT JOE WAS THAT HE WAS SOMEONE YOU COULD ALWAYS GO TO WHEN YOU NEEDED HELP. HE ALWAYS SPOKE AND GAVE YOU A SMILE, BUT YOU WERE ALWAYS DRAWN TO HIS BEAUTIFUL EYES. JOE WAS A FRIEND TO EVERYONE AND ALWAYS MADE YOU FEEL SAFE KNOWING HE WAS BY YOUR SIDE. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT PLEASURE TO HAVE KNOWN HIM AND WORKED WITH HIM. I WILL FOREVER CHERISH THE MEMORIES I HAVE OF JOE AS A FRIEND, A FELLOW DEPUTY, AND AS A MAN.

I have tried for days to think of something to say that would convey what this man I didn't even know gave to every single person in this county. Joseph Whitehead worked in the hardest, most dangerous job here, and gave his life to make this a more livable place. Nothing I write can begin to do him justice. God bless him and his family.

I have known Joseph since he started with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. I must say the pleasure was all mine. He was alway a professional, and he was great to be around. He and I would alway laugh about something in the past. I know that I will miss him. Joseph you will always walk the halls of Criminal Investigation Building. God Bless You, and your family.
