Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joseph Tim Whitehead, Jr.
Mrs. Whitehead and Family: From my wife
Caroline and myself, our prayers go up for you and your family. May God's promise of Psalm 121 live on in your heart. "I will lift up my eyes until the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. As a retired Bibb Deputy, may the Lord bless and keep you and your family. In His Service, Chaplain and Mrs. Len Woodard.

My heart goes out to his family and co workers. I have been gone from law enforcement for several years and had the honor and privelege of sometimes working with Bibb's deputies. Those I worked with had nothing but praises to say about Whitehead. The pain of his loss reflected in their eyes at the funeral. My heart and prayers are with you all.

I lost my Sargeant on the same day that your agency/family lost you...It seems that only "good people" seem to always leave this earth early. May you rest in peace brother, I hope you and My Sarge are up there looking out for us, don't worry, we'll take care of bussiness down here for now...
God bless you, your family and fellow brothers and sisters in blue......

To the family of Officer Whitehead,
My father was a police officer for over 20 years. Every time he walked out of the door to go to work I never knew if it would be the last time I would get to see him. As you very well know, the worry that a police officers family goes through daily is hard. It takes special kind of people to be the family of a law enforcement officer; not everyone earns the honor in doing so. Every law enforcement officer who puts his/her life on the line daily is a HERO. A law enforcement officers family is a HERO in every aspect. Though I didn't know your husband, I do know the heart of dedicated law officers to know that he was very proud of the fact that you and your children loved him enough to let him do the work that flowed through his veins to do.
Your law enforcement families are here to lend support, a helping hand, a shoulder to cry upon and anything else you need. We may not understand and question why God takes those we love home early but it is only He that will take away your pain and help you face another day. Do not be afraid to ask us for help.
From one law enforcement family to another law enforcement family, may God continue to shine that gold shield of protection around you as your husband and father did.

Joe, you always had a heart of gold and never failed to make it known. The things you did in this life will forever be your legacy. You had the strength, courage, and compassion of a hundred men. You were a role model to more people than will ever be known. I'll never forget the day in the office when you asked me why I was there. I said I wanted to help people and you said that was a good enough reason. You helped me out in more ways than you know with just that sentance. Jeff and I really wished we could be there to see you off to your home. Please know that you will forever be remebered as a hero and never be forgotton. Thank you, for your sacrifice, your courage, and for everything you were and will be again. In our hearts and thoughts forever,
Taylor and Whisler.

In Valor there is Hope.
Policeman's 23rd Psalm
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.
He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.
When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.
He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

"Hero" means different things to different people. In it's simplest terms it must mean someone you want to be like, someone whose knowledge you can draw from, someone you can lean on, someone that has ethics better than you own, someone that rises above the crowd and their goodness shines all around them. Joe Whitehead was a man that possessed all of these qualities. Now that he has gone before us we are honor bound to follow the path he led us to. God's speed Joe
Until we meet again.

I could never say enough about Joe he was one of the greatest men I have ever meet. He never meet a person he did not like unless they where drug dealers. The only reason he did this job was to protect as many children as he could from drugs. He help me several times when I was haveing problems at work and he never wanted anything for himself. The only thing that he loved more than his job and helping others was his wife and three children. I only hope that someday I can live up to his memory. He will always be in my heart. I know he will be riding with all of us as we continue to honnor him and do our job protecting his family and the families of Bibb County. I know Joe is sitting on high looking down on us and still trying to protect us all from harm. Thank you Joe for all the wonderful memories of you and helping me to be a better officer and friend. You will always be missed but never forgotten. We all love and miss you so much our lost brother.
