To the family and friends of Deputy James McGrane Jr. and his fellow officers in the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Dept.:

I was so saddened to read of the death of another young officer in the line of duty. On behalf of our entire family, we extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when James was brutally murdered.

May you find comfort in your faith and the support of your law enforcement family and other police survivors. There will be many people to stand beside you each step of this painful journey.

To James' parents, I share your agony in losing a beloved child to gunfire. It is an anquish you have to live to fully understand it. Heaven may have another hero today, but how I wish this had not happened to your beloved James.
All of James' loved ones are in our prayers.

James' valor, courage, and dedication will never be forgotten.

I also hope that the despicable criminal who took James' life will be caught, and that James' family gets the full measure of justice they deserve.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service James gave to his community and the citizens of New Mexico, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 22, 2006.

Thank you for your service and may your soul rest in peace with our father. My prayers are with your family, friends, and co-workers. It's always very tragic when a Law Enforcement Officer loses his/her life at the hands of a cold blooded killer. Your fellow brothers and sisters will not rest until the guilty person is caught and pays for what they have done.

I send my condolences to the family, friends, and Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department regarding the demise of Deputy James McGrane Jr. Another brother's life in this profession has been taken because of another cowardly 'thug with a gun.' I hope the suspect responsible for the death of this officer is prosecuted and given the strictest sentence allowed by law. I hope the ones that knew this officer will continue to remember his bravery, courage, and the legacy in which he left behind.

Deputy McGrane your shift is over now, we will take it from here. Rest in peace, brother...

March 23, 2006

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

I heard the call go and my heart sunk. We lost another fine officer, it can't be true.

I never got to know you, but many of my friends and family members did. They speak highly of you! You were a dedicated officer.

My young daughter told me not to worry because you are in heaven now and we have a new guardian angel.

Deputy McGrane, you touched so many lives! You made the ultimate sacrifice, you laid down your life for what you believed in.

Blessed be the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God!

God be with you my friend! We will take of your family as you watch over us!

To Deputy McGrane, Bernalilllo Co. Sheriff's Dept, and to the immediate family.

Sorry for your lost, words cannot even explain why tragic events like these occur. Officer throughout the country as well as abroad are deeply striken to the lost of another public servant, a person who was just doing his job. I don't understand why people would take another person life for no particular reason. We took an oath to protect the citizent that we serve within our community, it's an oath that we take seriously, event if it means to lay down our lives. To Deputy James McGrane, to honor your life and service, I will continue the march to keep our citizens safe. Look out for us brothers and sisters, as you look down from the heavens above. Your shift is now over, you will never be forgotten. GOD SPEED!
