Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff James Francis McGrane, Jr.

TO THE LOVED ONE WHO IS BEREAVED

"Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other , that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Pray, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well."By Henry Scott
Holland

This was sent to me after the death of my husband of fifty years. It made me cry and it will do the same for you. But, that is a necessary part of grieving. Your son was a hero and may he rest in peace. Our prayers are with you.

I am very sorry for the loss of such a young man. It is unfortunate to lose a son and husband in any circumstances but to lose someone in the line of duty is a tragedy. I pray for your family and freinds that you will find peace in your hearts. God Bless you and I will keep you all in my prayers.

I pray that God be with you and that he bring peace and comfort to your loved ones in this most sorrowful time.

As a niece of a fallen officer, may God be with your family and let you continue to protect and serve us from above. You gave the ultimate gift, your life to save others and bring this animal out of his hiding place. Now you can join the ranks of other officers in Heaven continuing their good deeds and works.

Deputy McGrane,

As I sit here and write this, I think of the well over 100 Deputy's and Officer's, not only from your immediate family in BCSO, but from others within the region, looking for the Suspects who ended your life.

I heard the news that morning, and immediately turned on my radio, listening for those in BCSO that I knew, hoping it was not one of them involved; yet knowing that regardless whom was involved, the news would not be a relief. The news would not bring any comfort. I cried. I cried the way I did the day that Mike was murdered last year. And why did I cry? I felt a loss, a loss of losing a friend, and a brother in arms. And I remembered many things.

I remembered you always welcoming my wife and I into the East Area Command Center. I remembered your smile, and the good food you were always preparing to eat on 61. I remember the fondness in your voice as you spoke of Connie. I remember your firmness, your fairness. And I remember you were always consistent in your actions. Everyone knew where they stood with you, no matter whom they were.

I mourn the loss of a dear person, that knew the risks of the job, and yet put on the uniform everyday, knowing that if you made an impact on one person's life that day, you were satisfied with the job you did when you went home. You entered BCSO looking for personal satisfaction, not for Medals of Valor. You accomplished your mission.

And now, BCSO 251, you are being dispatched to your last call. This is your final dispatch. 82 has been requested by your fellow officer's in Heaven. You are being requested to patrol the streets of Heaven, and stand the 3rd Watch over your fellow brethren in uniform down here on Earth. Please respond BCSO 251. Please respond to your Final Dispatch.

We celebrate your life!
