Reflections for Deputy Sheriff James Francis McGrane, Jr.
My condolences to the McGrane family. My husband served with BCSD for 22 years and although he did not know Deputy McGrane, we were deeply affected by his tragic death. I am so happy they caught the coward Astorga. Good job to our law enforcement!

I am a resident of Las Vegas New Mexico and I would like to say that not only my community but also all the citizens of the state of New Mexico should be very proud to have had you patrolling for one of the great law enforcement agencies in our state. I am sorry that it was for such a brief time, but now you are an angel in blue patrolling heaven and can be at peace and know that your fellow officers who you leave behind will continue to serve as faithfully as you served. I offer my condolences and appreciation for the service Deputy McGrane gave to his community and the citizens of New Mexico and the ultimate sacrifice he and his family made on March 22, 2006. With admiration and great respect thank you and God Bless you for standing behind the badge and giving your life to your city and state to keep citizens like me safe.
May god bless the family of Deputy McGrane and to all officers who place their lives on the line to save others, may God look over you!

I read today that they've caught that low life coward Astorga. I hope justice will prevail and he gets to pay fully for his crimes here and as he surely will when he meets his maker.
May you Officer McGrane now rest in peace.

To Officer McGrane's wife and parents:
I am so sorry for your loss. My heart sank when I learned about James. It is not fair. He was protecting us all. He did not deserve death. He left a hero and we will always remember him. Know that APD is absolutely heartbroken and we are eager to see his killer brought to justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

For not the hearers of the law are just, but the "doers" of the law shall be justified" (Romans 2: 12-13) Be at peace as you stand next to the Lord. We always hope that something like this will never happen and we were all so shocked that it did. You will be greatly missed but you will never be forgotten. We will remember how you were always willing to go wherever we sent you (usually with no argument!) You even pulled some of us over a time or two!! The Graveyard shift wont be the same without you. Say hi to Angelic (BSCO #291) for us. Rest in peace #251. You are in our hearts and always in our prayers. Thank you for all you gave to us.

Dont worry brother, we are too looking for your killer. We are all saddened by this tragedy. You are our brother, no matter what agency you work for. When we pin this badge on our chest, we are part of the biggest "gang" in the world and our goals are always the same; public peace and safety. You made the ultilmate sacrifice for us and we will all love you and miss you for that. Rest in peace my brother.
And to God: You have a wonderful deputy patrolling your streets now, he will never let you down.
