Reflections for Sergeant Jeremy Paul Newchurch

God be with Sgt. Newchurch's family. May you keep your faith, and look forward to day that you will see each other again. He will always be remembered as one of us, who died, so that others can live.

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE,,,
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER AS YOU WIPE YOU TEARS THE JOY I HAVE KNWON THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.

Streetfly, Our Hero in every aspect of his life. Streetfly was always there for me and my family. Friend, Softball coach, umpire, mentor to my son, and protector of our streets. Streetfly always had a smile on his face and always knew just the right things to say to brighten up any bad moment in our lives. Streetfly thanks for giving of yourself and believing in my son when no one else seemed to believe in him. You brought out the best in him. Streetfly, you will be sadly missed by myself and my family, but we know that you will take even better care of us now. We will always look to you for guidence and support. We know that you will always be there to listen to us when things get rough around here. Streetfly we love you and your memory will live in our hearts and minds forever until we meet you in heaven. To the Newchurch family, thanks for sharing Streetfly with us and supporting him with his job and all of the hours he put in to volunteer with our youth of the parish. Know that you will always be in our prayers. Streetfly we love you and will miss you dearly. May you sit at the right hand of the Father in Heaven watching over us all. You are truely of Hero our Blue Angel.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and co-workers of Sgt. Newchurch. I know exactly how you feel. I lost my husband, Sgt. Roy Gonzalez, Jr. of the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office, to this type of senseless killing. Roy was killed in July 2005 and it has been the longest eight months of my life. There will not be a day that goes by that you will not think about, reflect upon, and cherish your loved ones memories. Remember, you are not alone. There are others out here that can comfort you in your time of need. "It is not how they die...it is how they live their lives"...You are a hero to all of us Sgt. Newchurch. Find my husband and the two of you can walk Heaven's Beat and patrol the streets of heaven and watch over all of us.
May God Bless the Family and Friends...

Jeremy, I only got to know you through Courtney who would run every time we say you and say, "Nana, there's Mr. Streetfly". You touched the lives of the old and young alike. Though I didn't know you all your life, I knew you enough to know that you were a loving and caring person to all. Thank you for protecting our community. I know you are with GOD now with some of your friends and family who had gone before you. Please pray for us and our community. We will miss you. To the Newchurch Family, my sympathy is with all of you. Jeremy was certainly a reflection of the whole Newchurch family and the kind loving people that you are. I know you are proud of him!

This is just terrible, another fine young officer lost his life because of someone/s that do not value anything in life. I am so sorry this has happened to you Sergeant Newchurch. Besides the heartache one feels there is anger - anger that somehow these creeps keep coming out of the woodwork killing our loved ones and devasting families. Officer Newchurch you gave your all to help rid a portion of our world of dealers, junkies etc, etc - Your efforts were not in vain some are no longer out there but it took your life to stop them. To the family, friends, co-workers of Sergeant Newchurch please know there are many many people everywhere that hold you in the hearts and prayers.
May God Bless and comfort you

My most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Sergeant Newchurch. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To his family - I share your agony. I lost my husband in the line of duty almost one year ago. This is a very painful journey that none of us wanted to take. You do not walk this path alone but with many, many others who have endured similar losses. Jeremy is forever safe in the arms of the angels and will be with you all, always. He will guide and protect you as you continue on without him. I am praying for you.

Thank you, Sergeant Newchurch, for your service and ultimate sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in eternal peace, Blue Angel.

Streetfly, I love you & miss you so much already. It just isn't fair that you had to go. You protected us then, and I know you are looking down on us and protecting us all now. You are loved so dearly by so many and the pain we feel now hurts more than the pain felt that cold, horrible night. I can see you now and your special smile, the one that only you can smile! You've gotten so much attention, although this isn't the way you were supposed to get it. You've made the top headlines...all over TV, the newspaper, the internet...but most importantly, you're number one in our hearts. I know you're in heaven laughing now, oh so proud, of how much love you've received. Truth is, we only wish you were here, so we could share it with you now. We yearn for you so deeply and it just doesn't even seem real. We feel like we will see you tomorrow, but honestly, I'll be seeing you tonight...and EVERY night b/c you will always be in my dreams. We'll be hanging out and having a blast. I'll even let you sing Rascal Flatts to me as only you would know!! And although now, we won't be able to see each other physically, I know you'll always be there...an angel in disguise. So until we meet again, please know how much I love you and how much I will miss my special friend.
