On behalf of the men and women of the La Habra Police Department we send our thoughts and condolences to the New York State Police and the family of Trooper Sperr. It doesn't matter where we work, when one of our brothers or sisters fall, we all feel the pain and the loss. Rest in peace Trooper Sperr. You will never be forgotten.

To the Sperr family - you will be in my prayers. The hurt and pain is tremendous. He is a hero which I am sure you know. Clearly his actions saved the lives of unknown innocent people. For that we all are eternally grateful.

Just a short note to everyone that knew and loved Trooper Speer. We buried Officer Joseph D. Corr today. It is not often that we lose two men, within days. Your brothers were present in New Hartford, as I know they will be in your community. I am just aching. God Speed Trooper Speer.

Rest in peace Trooper Sperr. Your parents and siblings are in my prayers and thoughts. To the family - may you find comfort in the Lord on the long journey to healing that is ahead of you. Just know that you are not alone. There are thousands of people praying for you and with you. I lost my husband on 9-12-05 (Cpl Mark W. Carthron, Arkansas State Police). Only time will soften the pain. It will be hard, but with the help of the Lord, you will get there. I am still on that journey. Just know that God will take care of Andrew now, and he will take care of you.

Mrs. Angela Carthron

In my prayers, you will be. In my heart, you will stay. God has called you home my brother. Go now and rest. We will continue your work here on earth. I will see you at the pearly gates.

Grand Prairie PD, TX

March 3, 2006

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"
