Reflections for Trooper Andrew J. "AJ" Sperr

HERO!

Detective Corporal Morgan
Park County Sheriff's Office--Colorado

March 13, 2006

Like many others, I too cry for you even though we never met. Someone that I love dearly is also a NYS Trooper, so I know how it feels to fear for someone who puts their life on the line every day. I have read all the newspaper articles and comments about you and your family and I now truly understand what a tragic loss this is for all the people who knew and loved you. I'm confused, saddened and heartsick over the loss of such a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers are with all that are affected by this tragedy. I pray that you will all find peace and the strength to carry on. My heart grieves over the void that this tragedy has left in your lives. Trooper Sperr was a hero in every sense of the word...as are all of the men and women like him who put their lives on the line for the rest of us. Thank you. May God bless you and keep you all safe!

To the family of Trooper Sperr, I am deeply sorry for your loss. In our profession loss strikes us in an instant, and it always hurts. I just lost a classmate in the line of duty. Sound like Trooper Sperr was a true professional and will be missed. I feel your sorrow.

The difference between a law enforcement officer and the average civilian is simple. When most people see injustice they say, “That’s not my problem, stay out of it, and don’t get involved.” When an officer sees injustice he knows, “All that is needed for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”- Edmund Burke.

I believe that when judgment day comes, the final questions are not about what you did with your life, but what you didn’t do, and why. Looking through the family pictures at Trooper Sperr’s calling-hours and being among the 4000 officers at his funeral made it even clearer. This man was a hero to so many long before his death. Heroes are remembered for how they lived, legends are remembered for how they died. Trooper Andrew Sperr was both.

Our prayers are with you and your family,

To the Sperr Family and the NYSP: I heard the terrible news the other day, words cant express the sadness I feel for you. I was born and raised in Greece, NY, most of my family still resides in Greece. I moved to Florida after high school to pursue a career in law enforement, my brother just got hired down here a few months ago. My Mothern-law told me that the service passed by her house the other day traffic was stopped for hours she said. Chills went down my back when she described all the police officers. She said she had never seen that many red and blue lights going down the street and the peoeple standing on the side of the road with american flags slauting Trooper Sperr and the officers. What a tribute it was, I have never been prouder to wear this uniform. From a brother officer in Florida we can all feel your pain. You all are in my thoughts and prayers!!

As the wife of a NYS Trooper, I was sickened to hear of the untimely death of Trooper Sperr. I have thought about it each day since it has happened. No words can express the pain I feel in my heart for all of Andy's family, friends, and fellow officers. I am so proud that my husband wears the same uniform that a fine young man like Andy wore. He is a hero in the truest since of the word. The NYSP is the best law enforcement agency to work for and they showed that when they came together to honor their fallen hero. Again, I am proud my husband is a part of that family. My most sincere condolences go out to Andy's family. Your son is a hero for all to look up to and admire. I thank you for your part in making him the amazing person he was. You now have your very own angel watching over you. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, along with all memebers of law enforcement.

This is just the saddest thing. I looked at some of the photos and
articles from newspapers. It's easy to tell you lived life to its fullest,
loved well and were loved in return.
America grieves your loss and our
hearts go out to your families and
your friends. It amazes me how you
were one of 11 and still managed to
catch all the wonderful values that
were instilled in you from a young age. My heart grieves for the loss of
all the things you had yet to experience and all the love you had yet to share and the huge void that
will exist forever. You were one special guy whose shoes are too large to fill. God bless all who mourn, whether they knew you or not.
With love from one coast of America
to the other.

Andrew, when you signed on to your shift that day, you never knew what would happen. You knew the dangers and you steadfastly proceeded as we all do; it is our passion. But what you did is what we all dread--and you did it with honor, valor and without hesitation. I only hope that we can honor your memory through our words and actions. You are a tremendous hero that came from a tremendous family. May God Bless you and your family forever and know that you will never be forgotten.

It is sad to note the loss of another super person in law enforcement. Trooper Sperr..rest in God's arms now. Your brother and sister officers will take on your duties here. To this trooper's family, friends and co-workers...know God will reunite us all witrh our loved ones....especially those taken doing such noble work.

To the NYSP: We in california are reeling from the sixth death of our beloved California Highway Patrol officers in just 5 months. We are still reeling from their losses. But be strong and keep your heads held high. Your brother trooper is on patrol with God and he is safe. You were kind enough to send troopers to our officer's funerals. Thank you for your kindness. A week ago we buried CHP Officer John Bailey who was killed by a drunk driver. The pain has eased somewhat, but the loss is great. We who knew him and respected him are comforted by those who came to his memorial page and left reflections. I am just an aunt to some CHP officers, but my love for all in law enforcement is sincere. Be strong and brave and know you are better for having known Trooper Sperr. You sent troopers to Louisiana as we did and you will be blessed for all the good work you did, just as my boys and girls will be. Faith will see you through. I'm sorry for your loss. Bless you all,, Love, Aunt LoVae
