Reflections for Trooper Andrew J. "AJ" Sperr

Andy- you were honored twice today for your heroic acts on that fateful day, which none of us will ever forget. Your dedication and 10 years of service with the NYSP will NEVER be forgotten. Please know that we will do our best to take care of your loved ones left behind, because on March 1st, they became part of our families.

It doesn't seem possible that it's been nine months already. I wonder if I'll ever adjust to you not being around. I miss you.

I know you were there for Chris...you and Mark were both watching out for him. The last one gets his sentence today...because of you he will live behind bars for a long time. Because of you the community is a safer place, but I would trade it all to have you back, brother. I miss you, AJ.

My sincere condolences to Trooper Sperrs' Family. I didn't know him but I share the grief of losing someone close and know that no words can ever take away the pain. March 1st brought back fear and grief as I live less than 5 miles from where Trooper Sperr lost his life. Fear because it was close to my home. Grief because on March 31st 2004 my brother was shot and killed and I knew the pain the family must have felt. Thank you for your service AJ, it will not be forgotten.

Last week I stopped to see the sight of the shooting and say a prayer for Trooper Sperr. The area has been turned into a beautiful park named for Trooper Sperr and his memorial is striking.

There is no justice that can come from any sentence that can be issued to Anthony Horton or the Adams brothers. No sentence will ever rectify the profound loss the Sperr family has suffered. I have lost the best friend I will ever have in AJ. I love you brother.

AJ, a true hero. It is months later and it's all still fresh...there is still a big hole in my heart for you, the family, friends and especially for my brother. Please take care and watch over him superman. I only hope I can be half the person you were. I will pray for the living and for peace in your soul. Rest now...

March 1st forever changed our lives in the New York State Police community, and especially for the Sperr family. Nothing will ever be the same. Although I never had the opportunity, honor or priviledge of ever meeting you Andy, it doesn't matter. You shared the same uniform and love for your job as my husband, and you were also stationed in the same troop. Today, justice was served to the man who took your life way too soon. You had so much to look forward to. My heart breaks for you and all of your family. Your death has deeply impact my own life, and I will never be same again. Know that we will do our best to take care of all of them, because on that day in March, they became part of our families. Even though time passes us by, you will never be forgotten. God Bless you Trooper Sperr!

AJ,

The Jury just came back with a guilty verdict on all counts!! Your parents were so strong through the entire time. Hopefully now they will be able to try to relax and start the new life they have been thrust in.

AJ

We had a contingent of the various PD's from Monroe County come down together for the dedication of your park. The park is absolutely beautiful. What a fitting tribute for you. You definitely will always be remembered as the hero that you are.

Then, what an added tribute it was to attend the arraignment for another cop shooter/cop killer Bucky Phillips. The whole day was a wonderful tribute to the NYSP as well as law enforcement everywhere.

To "AJ" and his family,

AJ, I did not get the chance to get to know you on a personal level as I did with the rest of your family. But the time that I did have to know you, you have secretly been my role model in so many different ways. I remember to this day when I talked to you on the phone on November 21st, 2005 when I got my first buck with a bow and you were in New Orleans. I could not figure out who was more excited, you or me!! And from what I have learned about you, I don't think I have ever met a person with as much love, respect and dedication for people and for life itself. You have given me a new perspective on life and a new profound drive to be the best police officer and the best PERSON that I can be. I remember when we had dinner together with your sister and her husband and we talked about going on a bear hunting trip together. I wish more than anything that I could have had that trip with you as that would have been a great opportunity to bond with you. But I know you are up there watching over all of us here and I want to thank you for everything you have done in your profession and in your personal life for others. I hope to see you again!

You will always be in my heart and on my mind!

Your Friend,
Tony Wallace
