"I always thought you were the best,
I guess I always will.

I always felt that we were blessed,
and I feel that way still.

Sometimes we took the hard road,
but we always saw it through.

If I had only one friend left,
I'd want it to be you.

Sometimes the world was on our side,
sometimes it wasn't fair.

Sometimes we gave a helping hand,
sometimes we didn't care.

'Cause when we were together,
we made the dream come true.

If I had only one friend left,
I'd want it to be you.

Someone who understands me,
and knows me inside out.

To help keep me together,
and believes without a doubt.

If I had only one friend left,
I'd want it to be you."

love you.

Andy- We cannot believe it's been a year since your murder. We think about that day often. We are sorry you had to die alone and wish someone had been there for you. We cannot imagine what it is like for your family and Sue to go on every morning knowing you are gone forever. It breaks our heart and we wish we could do more for all of them. They are so special to us and came into our lives for a reason.

Although I never met you, George did, and considered you one of the best. He now knows that every time he puts his uniform on, he will do his best to honor you and the 10 years you gave to the NYSP. You are our hero Andy and will never be forgotten. God Bless you. May you rest in peace.

Sometimes you get the bad guy and sometimes he
gets you.
The shot that killed you also killed a part of us.
It killed a part of your family, both at work and at home.
It killed your dreams, your hopes, your future.
But it must not kill our determination to make this
world a better place or our will to make a difference.
America's streets must be running red with blood with
all the deaths of leos. Every time I come here to leave
a reflection, I feel like my words get emptier and emptier. I am truly sorry for your loss...a loss too great
for words. With love from one coast of America to the
other.

To the entire Sperr family and his family in blue I want to tell you how often I think of AJ and the sacrifice you all made one year ago. I will never forget hearing the news of his tragic death. Know that you are not alone as you continue down this new path. Even though miles separate us we are never far away should you need us. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers on this most difficult of days.

Andy,
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting you, my husband was in your class at the academy 11 years ago and remembers you as being such a great guy. Attending your funeral had more of an impact on him than anything else in the 8 years that I have known him. Please keep all of the guys on the road safe. Your family and close friends are always in our thoughts and prayers. You truly were Superman.

It is hard to believe it is almost a year since AJ's death. He was a hero and left a tremendous impact on every life he touched. I wish my kids could have known him. They would have loved to meet and know the real Superman. We are all so fortunate to have had AJ in our lives.

Andy,

It's been almost a year now, and it's been tough living with your ghost. Driving home the other day, I had a hard time making it down the East end of the highway. The river is frozen again this time of year, and it reminds me of wet dogs and pick-up trucks. I thought of a conversation we had on the side of the road shortly after we came upstate. I drove down to the site, and sat for a while before going home.
I understand what's done is done, and IF is a big two-letter word. But you know the rule; you call, we come. It tears me apart to think that you died alone. We were all so close; one of us could have at least been there to comfort you. We should have all been back at the barracks later that day; eating chicken subs, and bragging about how we wrapped up a bank robbery before lunchtime.
I get to work with most of the guys from time to time, and they're all out doing what you would expect of them. I was very proud of the way they conducted themselves during your case. I've also been in touch with a couple of the old Monroe guys recently; your loss really left a hole in a lot of lives.
You were right; hatred only consumes those who carry it with them in their hearts. I'm going to give up being angry for lent. I'm sure God had something important for you to do, and I'm pretty sure he outranks a Colonel. If you get a chance, look down on us once in a while; keep us safe, and remind us of what' s important.
You were the best of us brother; I miss you greatly, and think of you often. I couldn't have thought more of you if you were my own flesh and blood. You are the standard by which my children measure character and integrity. But I need to let you rest in peace. Ash Wednesday will be here again soon, and I need to move on. There is life yet to be lived, and always more work to be done.
P.S. Thanks again for the pictures. Momma hung some on the fridge, and the rest are posted at my office. They remind me of all the good times we had together, and keep me focused.
