Reflections for Trooper Andrew J. "AJ" Sperr
Andy,
It's hunting season again, so of course, I've been thinking a lot of you lately. I'm pretty sure you must have been watching over me in the woods the other day; I appreciate it. Got to spend some time with some of the young Troops recently. I see their young faces, and hope that you keep watch over them as well. I'm glad to say that there is still a lot of good left in the world, and I've been lucky enough to be close to some of it lately. Matty organized a marrow drive for little Samantha yesterday, and I got to see some of the old crew. Mike and Lisa look like they're doing well, Chad and Nicky stopped through, and I gave Mary a big hug. A lot of folks from Horseheads came down, and it was nice to see them all; good people, coming out for a good cause. Anyway, I've meant to write you lately, and I hope that you are well. No surprise here, I still miss you brother.

As Thanksgiving approaches, we are thankful for the brave men like yourself who protect our communities and risk their lives doing so. Your life was cut too short and you had so much to look forward to. You will forever be thought of as a hero in our house. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family this holiday season. Much love to all of you.

To the ENTIRE Speer family,
It seems like yesterday that my family learned of the death of AJ. It was one tragedy on top of the other. I very often think of all you guys. We are going thru all the same feelings. Grief is always there on top. I wish I could've met AJ. I was just reading some relections on Joe's memorial. Someone in you family wrote that as of March 1, 2006 our families will FOREVER be intertwined. How true that is. You are in my prayers abd thoughts daily. I have AJ's name and EOW in my car window right next to Joe's. God Bless you all. Please say some prayers for us as we are to embark on yet another trial for the 3 suspects left. They will be prosecuted by the US goverment in Syracuse rather than Oneida county. Hopefully by next spring. But there will never be closure for me as a mom...NEVER. Love to all

Sat by the lake this morning having coffee and remembered how we talked about duck decoys. I said it was cheating to lure them in that way. You smiled and said it wasn't. It's a lot of little things I miss the most, especially your goofy grin when we disagreed. Hope you're doing well.

Andy- you are always in our thoughts, especially on days like today, when there is an event to honor your memory. We never want anyone to forget you or what you went through on that day. We all try our best to keep your memory alive. God Bless you and your entire family. May you always rest in peace knowing we are trying to take care of them, Sue and the girls. You will always be our hero.

AJ,
Just thinking about you and all the times we shared together when we were younger. I went to your third year anniversary down in Big Flats. I saw your sister Patty not too long ago and talked for a little bit and how much we miss you. You will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten. You are missed dearly every day!

My thoughts have been with you and your family since Sunday. It warms my heart to hear that there was a memorial service at YOUR park....how deserving.
Your sister, Judy, has given us directions so we will be visiting you this summer on a 2008 Harley that has been custom painted to memorialiaze all fallen NYS troopers. Your name is prominently placed.
God Bless all!

I reflect on the moment I heard of AJ's death. What was left of my heart went out to all the Sperr family. Due to the deaths of our loved ones, we all have made such great friends. I have AJ's sticker on my car right next to Joe's. I wish we could have met under better circumstances. Dave will be at the memorial. I can't make the trip due to a car accident I was in. Be assured that your entire Family is my daily thoughts and prayers. God Bless you all.

Andy,
I think of you often. I drive I-86 on a daily basis now and know you are there watching over us all, your brother officers and the citizenry you so bravely and proudly served. We miss your physical presence, but feel you still as supporting that Thin Blue Line.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 3rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
To A.J.'s parents, brothers and sisters, and other loved ones: I share your anquish in losing a beloved family member which I believe is life's greatest sorrow. Time never diminishes love. I know your lives were forever altered three years ago. Those bullets didn't just kill our beloved son, brother, uncle, friend but a part of everyone who loved them. You are all in my heart's embrace today. May God grant you solace.
Rest In Peace, A.J.. You are so handsome in your picture. I am sorry you were robbed of your life at such a young age.

It's been three years today since your death. I still remember the RPD Officers approaching me and telling me of your death. I remember us going to the news in your area trying to learn what happened. We were already reeling from Joe Corr's death, then to have another LEO so close by die in such a brutal way again really rocked us. Then we learned your family lives in our area. We will continue to be there for them, just as they are here for the new survivors that come to us. Your, your family, including family of Grey Riders remain in my thoughts and prayers.

I still think about you everyday. I trully believe I always will. One of your favorite little girls talked to me the other day about you and the great memories she will have of you forever. At least our memories of you can't be taken away- not ever. You will be loved forever.

Well, my friend, another year has come and gone. Even though the tears have slowed, I still miss you as much as ever. The good news is that some of the goofy times we use to share still come to mind and I'm able to smile. I cherish those times.
Tomorrow the park will be renamed in your honor. I'd like to be there, but I can't. It still hurts too much to be in the place where you left this earth. Your parents are two of the bravest people I know to visit it so often. I wish I were that brave.
I love you and miss you still.

It is that time of year again. Three years have passed and each day is still challenge. I still cannot pass a deer, turkey or red ranger without thinking about you. It is just not fair that you are gone. You are missed. They say a life is judged not by how many people you have loved, but by the number who have loved you.
