Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jeffery Bickham
While it is no consolation for your loss, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Deputy Bickham.
While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.
Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and part of america died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect will be buried at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand in court with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids, and spend many long lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too, just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation wont fly at half mast, to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street and he stands at each rookies side.
He answered the call
of himself gave his all
AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED.
Rest easy brother....

"A MAN IN BLUE"
A man in blue has lost his life in service of law.
The love that makes this sacrifice the greatest love of all.
A Police man was killed today, the reason I cannot say.
I don't know why he had to die.
The man in blue died for me and you;
we must remember him too.
Flags fly low, let use bow in prayer
for fallen police men everywhere;
and remember this: that they are missed.
The badge burns bright like an evening star
free from a world of war.

Deputy Bickham, honestly, the same thing once happened to me, years ago. I was uninjured and was able to laugh about it that night. I can only speculate that God needed YOU a.s.a.p. for some special assignment that couldn't wait. I pray that assignment goes well and you can get back to protecting your family and community soon, even though it's in spirit only. I know they'll always have you with them.
God Bless and Rest in Peace, Brother.
