Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer John Bailey

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

The Wife of a Baltimore City Police Officer

Our hero of blue has fallen
A time of peace is calling

To remember a life and what was done
A dream fulfilled of our angel of blue
We honor you for the job you swore to do
A promise was kept from a hero like you
You put your life on the line each day

Gregory was my former submariner shipmate's son and like his father and his mother, he was a Patriot in the truest sense. Like his parents and his widow he knew first hand what sacrifice is all about. He served his country. His was an unselfish act "served" for one's family, friends, and fellow citizens and their families, friends and fellow citizens. For us, in other words in the smallest of terms and US in the biggest of terms. Greg's service made a difference in all our lives, in California and across these United States. Serving in Iraq he was a dedicated servant to us all. Coming home he continued to serve for the betterment of his state and country. We, your father's former comrades beneath the waves, salute you for carrying on in the finest traditions of service to your country. God bless..... "Bud" Spaulding, Harrison, ME
