John;
It is with great sadness that I am typing this to you. I remember when you came to work with me at Lockheed in Barstow on army helicopters. I was a contractor and you were just getting out of the active army. I enjoyed working with you and recall ahving mant laughs with you as we fixed things. I remember your initial comments about joining the CHP and eventually becoming a motorcycle officer. So on the day I learned of your death I also learned that you had fullfilled your wish of becoming a motorcycle officer. I will pray for your family's future and your fellow officer's safety. I have lost another brother in the aviation community. I will always remember you my friend.

When you left for Iraq, John, we took a deep breath and held it. Your emails were so welcome; they gave us comfort to know you were okay. When you came home, we let that breath out, thinking we knew the danger you faced each day was nothing compared to the terrors you had already lived through overseas. Whatever air was left was kicked out of us when we heard the news of your death.

You will be sorely missed, and your family will remain in our prayers forever. We thank you for being such an exemplary example of service. We thank you for protecting us as a soldier of the US and of the CHP. Go in peace, rest, watch over us all.

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and part of america died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect will be buried at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand in court with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids, and spend many long lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too, just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation wont fly at half mast, to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street and he stands at each rookies side.
He answered the call
of himself gave his all
AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED.
Rest Easy Brother....

Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote “The bitterest tears shed over graves are for words left unsaid and deeds left undone” This is so true but I also think of the many times you and your fellow officers have said “Please sign right here. This is not an admission of guilt,” when an offender was stopped. Because of this deed, no one will ever know how many lives you and your brother officers saved on a daily basis. You are in God’s hands now and I am sure he greeted you with loving arms and the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant."

SFC Bailey, God Speed!
Thank you for your service to your country and community! You will be missed. I will never forget the 650 mile convoy through Iraq and the Senior level leadership you provided for your young soldiers. I knew that you were a man who would lead these soldiers with confidence, good level headed judgement, personal sacrafice, and a hell of a lot of integrity. Your name will be always with those that were in the arena, daring to be great. You are an American Patriot. Your children will live in the legacy of service you provided.
God Bless you Bailey Family for sharing him with us in combat he brought a lot of men through the experience for the better.

My entire family would like to express their condolences to the family of officer Gregory John Bailey. No doubt Greg was taken too soon, but I am sure he served with integrity, honor, and professionalism, which you should all be proud of. Every officer here will fight for freedom and justice in Greg's honor and the honor of all those who fell before him. RIP brother Greg.

Policeman's 23rd Psalm

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.
