Reflections for Detective Jared Scott Jensen

Jared ~ I miss you greatly, that words can't even explain the void I have in my heart for you. I will forever hold onto all the great memories we shared...even when we fought like cats and dogs. You will forever be rememberd for all that you did. Your new niece and nephew will carry your name strong and true. I know that you are still with us, as I feel your presence every day. Until I see you again....please know I Love You. Love, your sister.

Jared, we miss you beyond any words that I have, but we celebrate your life, and the memories you left us. I have been fortunate enough to have known a few, and you are on my short list of HEROS brother. Your life, and sacrifice, will never be forgotten. We had a small get together Saturday night to wish Jeff farewell, before he took his new coosh job in Major Crimes. Natalie came, and won first prize, oh by the way, with her now world famous lasagna! We rang the shot bell more than once, in honor of you my friend. Jared, your family is incredible. To Debby, 7:00 a.m. Mass, anytime. Mr. Jensen, thank you sir, for your service to our country. Natalie, thank you for taking time out of your busy work schedule to talk to Angie and I even though you still had to perform, when you didn't even know who we were. Sarge, thanks for being you. I miss you Detective Jensen....we all do.

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Detective Jensen. I recently lost my cousin, who was also only 30 years old. I pray that Detective Jensen's wife and brother will embrace the love and support the police department and officers from around the world offer. God bless you.

For the last two and a half weeks there has not been a day that has gone by that I have thought about the ultimate sacrifice that you gave. It just breaks my heart that we had to say good-bye to you too soon. I can tell that you will be missed dearly and that no one else will ever fill your shoes. The pain of losing you is so great for so many people. May God heal their broken hearts as only he can do. You will forever be remembered as a hero. My heart aches for you Natalie, please know that you are not alone.

Thank you to everyone who has kept Jared, his wife Natalie, and the rest of our family in their thoughts and prayers. Also for the way his legacy was and continues to be honored. Jared, I miss and love you more than words could ever truly explain. Even though you were my little brother, I looked up to you in more ways than the obvious. Rest assured you will be forever remembered a hero not just for the way you died, but more importantly for the way you lived. Bro, I'll keep my promise. We have the streets now and until we are truly together again know you were a great cop, an unbelievable brother, and made an impact greater than you could ever imagine.

Jared, I consider myself honored to have known you. I wish that I had more time with you, but I remember the days at the Creek when you were in training. You always seemed so eager to learn and to enjoy life; I only wish more people could be the same.

“Mine honor is my life; both grow in one; Take honor from me, and my life is done.”
--William Shakespeare

I think most officers would say that quote is true for them because our honor is the one thing we control out on the street day and night; however, very few ever prove that in the ultimate way--by giving their life. Jared, you gave your life instead of your honor, you faced your demon that day, and for that you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace brother.

Well Jared - The PASS Team is back to work now. Oly and I wanted you to know we know you're with us each day - still keeping us safe. Our song continues to come on the radio - Whiskey for our men - with what I'm calling your song following - When I get where I'm going. I put tape across the "Advertise Here" logo on your bench. I thought it was tacky. I go by your bench every day. I just wanted to let you know that even the criminals we've arrested together are saying good things about you and expressing their condolences to us about our partner (that'd be you). I love you man - and miss you deeply. I pray you continue to be with us on a daily basis. Hey, at least where you're at you don't have to do any of those things you hated to do (like picking up hookers). Take care. Love you.

Jared,

As I sat at your funeral service many memories came back to me. Like the first day we were in the line up room at sand creek and another officer named you "turtle", and the many foot chase that you got us all into on midnights. Most of all thank you for giving the ultimate sacrafice my brother. You will not be forgotten. Rest in peace your shift is over.

Jared,

Two weeks ago tomorrow I will relive hearing the words "An officer has been shot and killed" and I will remember my heart breaking at the thought it could be my husband. I will remember running home and how it felt to hold him in my arms and know he was safe and then the pain to find out it was one of our own.
Yesterday I remember sitting in that church a week ago during that beautiful tribute to you and seeing the pain and devastation on the faces of EVERY man and woman, officer and civilian, and I will remembered the words that were said about how you loved, laughed, and lived. I watched your wife Natalie as she sat there and I could see the memories of her life with you on her face as they talked of your acting days and your poker games. I can only hope that every wife out there will demonstrate her strength and resolve in any situation. Please know she was not alone. I sat with rows and rows of wives who were there simply to show support to her as she made the most difficult transition of her life.
Tomorrow I will remember the talk I had with my husband that it can be anyone, anywhere, and at anytime and listened as he told me how careful he was. Tomorrow I will remember why I accepted the responsibility of being an officer's wife and I will think of the bond that all wives have and the burdens we share together. I will pray that Natalie will get through another week and then another and another. Your wife is one of the bravest people I have seen in a long time and we will take care of her. Tomorrow I will remember that your passing has opened our eyes that evil is always at our backdoor and that our boys in blue are ready to protect and serve as they have been trained to do.
There was a lyric in a song I heard that reminded me of you. "It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you; it's what you leave behind you when you go." How true this is. You left us with an undying will to do the right thing at all costs, respect for the life we have been given, love for our families and friends, the ability to face the unpleasantness society has to offer and to face it head on, and a resolve to see justice done.
It is so obvious that you ARE loved and missed greatly. The officers of the CSPD have a deeper devotion to what they do everyday and for those who are still new, you have left them with a greater understanding of their duties and their brotherhood. Though most of us have never met you, we are and will always be part of yours and Natalie’s family. Tomorrow we will remember our brother and everyday after that we will honor him. You lived as a man, died as an officer, and will forever be remembered as a hero.

To the family, friends and fellow officers of Officer Jared Jenson:

I had the good fortune to work with Jared several times during his days as an actor at the New American Theatre. His larger than life spirit, his gentle good humor and compassion for others served then and will continue to serve as an inspiration to all who knew him. My father who was a Deputy sheriff and detective in Winnebago Co. Illinois for 36 years sends he condolences as well. As a soon to be member of the EMS community, I will rely on a daily basis for police officers to make sure that I am safe as I care for others. I hope that they are all as wonderful as Jared.

To the Jenson family and the family of Jared's wife, please know that our hearts are with you. Please know that there is a special place in heaven for those who daily put on the badge and gun in the defense of the communities they serve. Bless you, Jared. You are gone but not forgotten.

Jared, Thank you for everything you brought us at the CSPD and the memories you left behind. You touched so many lives in our organization and in the community. I have never been prouder in my 25-year career with CSPD than I was on February 27th to put on my uniform to honor you just like so many others did. You have such an incredible family. My prayers are with your wife Natalie, your brother Jeff, and your mom and dad. You were an incredible officer with a career cut way to short. You shall be remembered forever.
