Reflections for Special Agent Daniel Joseph Kuhlmeier
Dan, you once told me that some of the best people you ever met were in the military. I didn't realize it until I met you. You are a man of Honor.
So, I have this to say to you my friend:
The true heroes are the ones that don't make it home. So great is their sacrifice. But fear not, for our flag still waves. For with their spirit soars the hope of our Country.

Soldiers define heroes by their actions, characterizing them by strength and courage. Heroes are unique individuals who challenge fate, risking life and limb for something or someone they believe to be greater than themselves. May the actions of you and your Team never be forgotten.

I thank you for your service to our country and the fight for freedom for others. I know the broken hearts that have been left behind which will take a very long time to partially heal. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten. Keep watch on your loved ones and those still fighting the battle for freedom.

Dan, we departed on the 20th for what should have been an easy mission and instead we lost you and Jesse. I don't know how God made his decision to take you two and leave the rest of us, but I guess he wanted to take the best that day which is exactly what he did. May your family find peace in knowing that you were the best AFOSI had to offer.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Agent Kuhlmeier, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading all the reflections left for Daniel, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Daniel's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Daniel's life was about so much more than the way he died. Daniel will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Agent Kuhlmeier, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

This really crushed me when I found out, and even now, writing this has me upset. My love and humble contemplations for a place and time I know all too well. Love of country, committment and valor provides hope; respect for a life lived in focused selflessness and honor and taken from us. My deepest heartfelt condolences to your family my brother. I would love to help in any way I can, just drop me an e-mail.

Dan,
You were a good friend, a great agent, and an awesome leader. You would have been proud to see the police motorcade in your honor leading to Arlington. You would have shed a tear when the Marine Honor Guard folded the flag on your behalf, gave you a 21 gun salute, and played taps. If it was for anyone else, you would have been filled with sorrow and patriotism. I regret that it was for you. May you Rest In Peace, brother, knowing that we will continue the fight you lost your life in and will one day be successful because of the sacrifices you made.

Dan,
Words cannot express the feeling of sadness we (the brotherhood) feel at the tragic loss of your life. As you ascend up to Heaven in the arms of Saint Michael the Archangel, understand God holds a special place for heroes like yourself. Your family will be taken care of, rest easy my friend and go 10-7 as we have the watch.
