There hasn't been a day that's gone by since you were taken from us that you haven't been in my thoughts. I sure miss looking over the fence and seeing your garage light on. It meant I was welcome to stop by for a great conversation and a cold one. You are missed more than you could have possibly imagined. Until we meet again, rest easy brother.

It had been about 19 months since you were taken from us and you are still missed, everyday my brother! I think of our drives while still at the academy and thank God for allowing me those times and for your friendship. Jeanne often times can look at my face and know that I am thinking of you by the sorrow and anger I show.

we followed the events of the aftermath of your "routine" stop according to the press anyway on the internet. (we know there is no such thing as routine) we remember especially reading what the kids in your neighborhood had to say about you. they all enjoyed hanging out with you at your house and obviously looked up to you. i remember one little boy in particular who obviously thought you were a million bucks. perhaps one day one or more will follow your foot steps. this is your legacy.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Earl, when we were kids, you were a brother to me. You were always at our house....even went on family vacations with us. You picked on me so much back then. I would give anything to have you back so you could pick on me. You are forever in my heart and soul. You are in my prayers, brother.
Love,

Earl, you are truly missed by everyone at the office. I can not believe it has been over a year since this tragedy was thrust upon us by a no good criminal coward. We can only hope that the ultimate justice is served. I drive by the scene daily and the anger does not go away and I can only imagine the feelings of your brothers-in-arms that were on scene. Earl you will never be forgotten.

Earl,
It has been nearly a year since you were taken from all of us. It has been a year of adjustments for all of your family and friends. Brandon has a new baby that you should be able to get to know. I am sure that you are looking down on everyone and watching over all of us. It is so wrong that you are not here for another racing season. I miss talking about racing and our hopes for a Chevy driver to ride to victory.Chris misses you so much. We are convinced though that when God sees you he says 'Earrrrrrrrrrl" and you reply with your line "God........."And you remember your everyday exchanges with Chris.Tiffany thinks of you everyday. She has many photos of you as a reminder of you. She knows that when the two of you eventually meet again that you will share a Dr. Pepper and catch up on all of the everyday stuff. Earl we all love and miss you very much. You are forever in our hearts. I will be seated in the courtroom each and every time that your murderer has an appearence and see that justice is served for you. There are very dedicated people who are working to make that happen. You are forever in our hearts.YOu are forever our HERO.

One year ago tonight, your partner and I sat underneath the Macy's parking garage at Midnight, to avoid the rain of falling bullets from the Modesto sky's during New Year's celebrations. We had no way of knowing what the year had in store. I will never forget that moment in time. God Bless you Earl. We will never forget you!

I never took the time or made the effort to formally thank you for helping my brother. Watch over him up there for me and know that I have a thousand thank-you's to tell you when I get there.
It's not been the same around here since you were taken from us Earl.
We miss you, and love you.
Always will.
