Reflections for Officer Earl Harwood Scott

Another year gone. I put up your picture and tagged everyone I could at SCC. They are all commenting and leaving goid thoughts.

Thinking about you tonight, as I reminisce with some co-workers about childhood memories. A quick google search brought you to this page. Our memories only fade if we don't talk about them from time to time. My fond memories of you will not! Continue your rest my friend.

February 17, 2022 the 16th anniversary of the death of California Highway Patrol Officer Earl Scott who was tragically gunned down and killed during a traffic stop. Before Earl joined the CHP he was a correctional officer and I had the privilege and honor of working with him for a number of years. During a critical incident at which both Earl and I were present his actions helped stop a serious assault on staff including me and my partner, Such actions were commonplace for Earl as he took his job seriously and was diligent in his duties. Regretfully Earl was more of an acquaintance than a friend to me, I wish I had known him better. Fortunately however, he was to me a brother. This is a tribute to my brother Law Enforcement Officer Earl Harwood Scott. Rest in peace my brother, you are both missed and remembered.

Earl, I met you on a turnaround by the bridge on graves, you were working on patrol and I was on OT, We exchanged pleasantries and as always, we would always say to whoever pushed black and white, be safe as we parted. The most distinctive thing I remember was your smile. Rest in Peace Brother.

I didn’t know you as well as I wish I had. So I’m surprised by how much your death impacted me. There are things from that day I will never forget. They’re like snapshots in my mind. A few of our classmates and your workmates are in my office now. We talk about you a lot. I’ve never heard anyone say a single bad thing about you. The level of anger I still have for your killer is hard to deal with. I hope there is a Camaro for you to drive in Heaven.

Each Feb 16 I remember that I went to bed and life was normal, but when we all awoke on February 17 ....it all collapsed and life would never be the same.
The years fly by, but I still see you in everything I do. I am so thankful for the time I had with you Earl.
Still wishing still for one more day with you.....

Earl, miss ya buddy, hard to believe its been a dozen years already. It still puts a smile on my face when I think back to our car pool days in CDC and some of the jokes we played on the unsuspecting fellas... I hated to see you leave CDC but you wanted to follow your heart and family. Just like CDC, you brought a smile and a work ethic to be proud of to the CHP. Whenever I pass the area where we lost you, it brings back all those memories again... good and bad, every time. Thank you for your service in both agencies, you inspired us all. You will never be forgotten buddy. Thank you for the good times on and off duty. Rest in peace Earl.

It's been 15 years and 6 months since I first met Earl. I lived with him for 6 months while being his roommate during the academy. It was nice to have someone slightly older and more experienced than me helping me through the process.

I frequently tell stories of Earl's shenanigans to others who just laugh! He was someone I admired and enjoyed spending time with. Rest in Peace my friend!
