Reflections for Trooper Steven Roy Smith
My best to your family. May God be with them.
February 13, 2006
Don't think of them as gone away,
their journey has just begun.
Life holds so many facets,
this Earth is only one.
Just think of them as resting,
from the sorrows and the tears,
in a place of warmth and comfort,
where there are no days or years.
Think of how they must be wishing,
that we could know today,
how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
And think of them as living in the hearts of those they touched,
for nothing loved is ever lost,
and they were loved so much.

My most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Trooper Smith. Such a tragedy. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
To his family - although I lost my husband in the line of duty almost 11 months ago, I am unable to comprehend the depth of your pain and grief. To have to live with his injury for 7 years must have been terribly difficult for all of you. I hope you all can take comfort in the knowledge that he is finally at peace, safe in the arms of the angels and walking Heaven's streets of gold. I will pray for each one of you, especially his children, that you will find the strength and courage to continue on. His memory will live on in all of you!
Thank you, Trooper Smith, for your service and ultimate sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in peace, Blue Angel.

Steve this is so hard to believe. Seems like only yesterday we were in the academy. I remember the times we shared rooms and how you would set and write poetry. We never got to see each other much after graduation. I admire you for the kind of man you are. Your bravery and strong will I will never forget. Heaven has received a wonderful individual. For now you are in perfect health and in the glory of God. Littermate I will see you again someday. Watch over us all.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Trooper Steven R. Smith. I am glad to say Trooper Smith now is in a better place where he don't have to worry about being a quadriplegic. I can't even imagine the heartache that this family has been through during the past seven years, and then dealing with this trooper's death, all because of a cowardly 'thug with a gun' that took his own life. I send my condolences to the family and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for Trooper Smith's demise. I hope everyone that knew this officer will continue to remember his bravery, courage, and the legacy in which he left. Trooper Smith your shift is over now, we will take it from here. Rest in peace, brother...

When you arrive at Heaven's gate, an endless row of Officers will greet you. No longer paralyzed, you will return their sharp salute. Later, you will all raise a cold beer together. My Husband will be among those, welcoming you home.
