He will be very much missed by the family... It saddens me to know that he worked in a city of terror for years and never once got hurt, but to go to a safe town up north and end up getting KILLED due to a hate crime... Hate crime is what caused him to get killed, I wish the hate crimes could be stopped... Thanks to all for your contrubutions of making the USA a better place to live....

To the family and friends of Officer Jim Sell and to his fellow officers with the Gassville Police Dept:

My heart was saddened to learn of another horrific crime that took the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Officer Sell was brutally murdered. Thirty years devoted to law enforcement is a testament to Officer Sell's character and integrity.

May you be comforted by the support and warm embrace of the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with you. Officer Sell is a true hero whose bravery and dedication to protecting the citizens of Arkansas will not be forgotten.

I am glad that the cowardly monster who took Officer Sell's life saved his family the pain of lengthy court proceedings by shooting himself. After that monster hurt so many other people, it seems just and fair that evil looked at itself in the mirror.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Sell gave to his country through his naval military service and to his community through his service as a peace officer, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 4, 2006.

I worked with Jim for seven years with the Blytheville Police Department from 1986 to 1993. He was my captain, my fellow officer, my friend. It grieved me very much to hear that he met his fate by some cowardly punk. I know that Jim is in a much better place now and he traded his body armor for Angel's Wings. I will miss him.

Officer/Captain Sell, you are more than just a hero. You gave of yourself to your country in the Navy, to the citizens of Blytheville for 27 years and then, when you could have sat back and enjoyed your retirement, you went back into the trenches part-time for the citizens of Gassville. I admire that and know in my heart, you were put at the head of the line at the Pearly Gates. My heart goes out to your family and all who knew and loved you.

God Bless and Rest in Peace.
