At this time I am frightened. My twin brothers are currently in the Metro Police Academy. They began training in January. I will never forget this mans great courage in trying to help a stranger. While it does not make death any easier, what I must remember is he died doing something he loved and in a job that demands respect. Prayers to his wife and daughters at this horrific time. Prayers be with all law enforcement.

I met Sergeant Prendes a few years ago and although I have not spoken to him in a long time, I remember what a wonderful person he was. Despite all he had seen in his life he had an amazingly upbeat attitude that inspired all those who ever met him. He will be missed and never forgotten. Thank you Henry for your service to your community and your ultimate sacrifice. Your family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

Officer Down

I approach the vehicle, as blue lights bounce around me,
It's not a matter of like and hate, it's the violation I saw.
As I get closer, the danger I do not see,
I'm thinking of enforcing the law.
I hear the shot, and feel the pain,
As I drop to the ground
The car speeds off driven by a man who has to be insane,
As I finally into my radio, mumble, "Officer Down!"
As I lay there, I thought of my wife,
I see the dreams we had made.
I ask the Lord to please spare my life,
Then I felt myself begin to fade.
I stopped him only for speeding,
Then I heard a sweet voice on my ear.
"Come with me son, to Heaven I am leading.
No more will you have to shed a tear."
I opened my eyes to see my Savior,
He said, "Follow me, my son.
He will pay for his behavior,
For you have performed a job well done!"

All of us at Metro House Arrest are hit hard by this tragedy. It's tough enough to lose any officer but it's made all that harder when it's one of our own. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Sgt. Prendes and all of our brothers and sisters in law enforcement that will have to live with this tragedy and continue on.
