Reflections for Sergeant Henry Prendes
Sgt. Prendes, On Feb.1,2006, I was team-teaching the 'Radio Communications/Info Channel' class to the new recruits at the LVMPD Academy. Included in the course material is lengthy discussion of the worse experience possible...the '444-Officer Down' call.
An hour or so into our class, we received the horrible news. OFFICERS HAD BEEN SHOT!! This news hit my teaching partner and friend directly in her heart! One of the officers is her fiance! She was taken directly to the hospital. I remain at the Academy to complete the class but I stopped class ...advise the recruits of this horrifying news ask that we pray together. The recruits, being some of the newest members of the 'Metro family' prayed for the wounded Detective, for You and for your families. I have been on the Department 10 years and I prayed for the wounded Detective, for You and for your families. At that moment...we were all one...all family.
Sgt. Prendes,in life you touched the lives of so many others and I truly believe your ultimate sacrifice touched the lives of those recruits. I know they will never forget you! That day you truly showed them that the Metro Star does indeed shine bright!! The bar is set high! The risks are high, but the level of HONOR is high too! Thank you for your service.
God bless and keep your family and give them comfort and strength. My deepest condolences to them.
And for you Sarge,no need to check your status anymore...I'm sure you are
'Code-4'. Rest in peace.

Peace on Earth
If there was peace on earth,
there would be no wars.
If there was peace on earth,
there would be no bad guys.
If there was peace on earth,
there would be no drugs.
If there was peace on earth,
No police officers would get killed.
If there was peace on earth,
I would be the happiest little boy.

I have been in Las Vegas for almost 15 years. Approx. 5 years ago, I was a victim of an armed robery. Although the gunmen were not caught, the treatment and concern I received from Metro was very heart warming and caring. I believe Office Prendes was one of the many officers who answered the call of a silent alarm I was able to push. From that day, on, everytime I came across him or the oter 2 officers who answered my call for help, they remembered me. I felt very special, as I know they encounter many different types of people everyday, and for these officers to remember me almost 5 years later is very special. Wednesday, February 1 was a very sad day for our city. Those who do not live in Las Vegas do not see the personal, caring attention our local police forces, fire fighters and others show to those of us who live here. We are more than just a place to gamble, and their is more to our city than what is seen on TV. Although God has chose this day to return Officer Prendes to his maker, it is a very sad day for us. May God look after the remaining officers who wake up every day with the main purpose in their life to be protecting the citizens of Las Vegas, our visitors, and community. My prayers go out to the Prendes family, Officer Prendes, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Force, thank you. Thank you for being there everyday for us, and thank you for responding to calls of help, regardless of the danger to yourself. It is you who make us proud to say "I live in Las Vegas". It is you who make it easier to sleep at night, knowing you are out there watching over all of us.

This story of Sgt Prendes made me sad, angry, but not surprised. There are just too many fine men and women who lay their life down protecting a more and more violent society. My thoughts are with the Prendes family. God Bless an American Hero.

SGT. Prendes,
My heart and prayers go out to both you and your family. You have made the ultimate sacrifice for this community. You stood strong in the face of adversity, and in doing so you made this city a better place to live. I wish that I could have been along side of my brother on February 1st. It would have been an honor to enter into battle along side of you. It is officers like you that make this department such an honor to work for. I know that God will welcome you into heaven with open arms. You are now free to protect the gates of heaven. You will be sorely missed by your brothers and sisters of Metro. You have inspired us all. I only hope that I am half the officer that you were Sir. I love you brother. I shall miss you. God Bless!!!

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
