Though I did not know Sergeant Prendes, my heart breaks for his family, both immediate & extended. In a world where things are less than ideal, he worked every day to serve others & make it a better place to be in. I have such respect for the job & for those who serve faithfully & honorably. My heart goes out to the family...you all will be in my prayers.
Respectfully,
Shannon McKenney

I had the pleasure of attending a conference in Laughlin last September, in part hosted by LVMPD. I met some great officers from the department, and the hospitality shown to everyone was incredible. I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family of Sgt. Prendes, as well as to the membership of LVMPD.

Henry, May you rest in peace my brother. You have made the ultimate sacrifice and the city of Las Vegas has lost one of its native sons. You are in God's arms now looking down upon all of us and I am sure that you are still looking out for our well being. That's the kind of man you were, you always put others before yourself. You will not be forgotten. My prayers go out to your family. Thank you for all that you have done. Your friend 4122.

Final Inspection
The Policeman stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much. But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.

"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

I went to Las Vegas High School with Henry and we graduated a year apart. He was always a leader and a humble friend, someone you could always count on. Thank you for always being an inspiration. God bless you, Henry.

I give my heart-felt condolences and prayers to Henry's friends and family, and all the brave and selfless officers of the LVMPD (and agencies everywhere) who put their lives on the line every minute of the day to protect the rest of us. God bless you all.

It amazes me to read all of the messages left here by citizens and fellow officers in memory of Sergeant Prendes. He was surely a great man. I feel a great sadness for the loss of his life and the pain and sorrow his family, friends, and law enforcement family are going through. As a law enforcement officer myself, rarely do I hear the words of appreciation, respect and love that are found on these pages. It was a great comfort to me that others reached out when an officer in my "law enforcement family" was murdered. I think once each of you in Las Vegas Metro reach your own level of healing, you to will be able to come here and find great comfort in those same words. Until then and always, may God comfort you as you mourn your friend and loved one.

If Heaven

If Heaven was an hour, it would be twilight
When the fireflies start their dancin' on the lawn
And suppers on the stove and mammas laughin'
And everybodys workin' day is done

If Heaven was a town it would be my town
On a summer day in 1985
And everything I wanted was out there waiting
And everyone I loved was still alive

Chorus:
Dont cry a tear for me now baby
There comes a time we must all say goodbye
And if thats what Heavens made of
You know I ain't afraid to die

If Heaven was a pie it would be cherry
Cool and sweet and heavy on your tongue
And just one bite would satisfy your hunger
And there'd always be enough for everyone

If Heaven was a train it sure would be a fast one
That could take this weary traveler round the bend
And if Heaven was a tear it'd be my last one
And you'd be in my arms again

Chorus:
Dont cry a tear for me now baby
There comes a time we must all say goodbye
And if that's what Heaven's made of
You know I ain't afraid to die
