You will surely be missed. As i remembered you from growing up in Las Vegas and spending 8 years of school with you, you were a wonderful person. Someone i always admired. You always were bigger than life and hearing of your passing truly tears my heart. I feel for your wife and family. God Bless them through their hard times. I can only imagine their pain and loss. My condolences and prayers are with them. You are forever a hero to me and this city. I will never forget you.

To all the law enforcement officers in this community... Thank you for all your hard work and dedication.

THE POLICEMAN’S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS.
HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS.
"STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU?
HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a Saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep,
though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though sometimes I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept many unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here,
they never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t, I’ll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.
As the Policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell."

Being a volunteer for Metro in Laughlin, you find you become part of a large family, on Wednesday I saw and heard the comments of Laughlin Metro officers as they waited on information about Sgt Prendes many of them knew him or had met him. We are 110 miles away from Las Vegas, but all of the officers I was near in our substation shared the grief of the Metro family.

Henry,
Eleven years ago, I was in field training, second phase at NEAC. This was a new sub station, I was nervous, and was intimidated, like most new officers. I remember you came up to me and introduced yourself with a beaming smile and firm handshake. Immediately, I was calm, relaxed, and ready to learn. I don't know if I ever told you how relieved I was knowing you would be my FTO. I could tell before our first briefing you were well liked and respected by all the officers in the room. The next three weeks was where you shared your knowledge that is still a permanent part of me. We had fun and you treated me as an equal early in my career, and years later, whenever we passed each other, we would laugh at "old times".
Henry, you made the ultimate sacrifice, but a part of you is in every trainee you had.... You will always be in our hearts and minds. You were a positive influence in my life and career, and I thank you. I will never forget P#4067...

When I first moved here two years ago, my car broke down and a Las Vegas Metro Officer stopped and ask me if there was anything he could do to help. I never knew the officer’s name until the other day, it was Sergeant Henry Prendes. I knew that day that he was truly a nice person and a good neighbor to all the citizen’s of Las Vegas. Sergeant Prendes you were a hero long before today. God Bless you.

The effect of this tragedy is especiallly poignant for those of us who work almost exclusively in the area of Domestic Violence Intervention. Approaching a door which hides an unknown element can be challenging at the best of times. Sergent Prendes demonstrated his willingness to go to the aid of those he did not know and to take the risk associated with such an action. His bravery demonstrates an extraordinary level of courage, commitment and resolve. Sergent Prendes, in fullfilling his duty, gave his last full measure and we are all diminished by his loss. All of the Deputies of the Sheriffs Civil Section/DSD/LVMPD mourn his passing.

Dearest Henry,

Anyone that was fortunate enough to have met you will be touched by you forever. As I reflect on my childhood memories, I see you laughing and your presence was always larger than life. You seemed to have an innate gift of making those around you feel special. You sacraficed for us all and for that I thank you. How honored I feel to have known you.

To the Prendes family- may God bless you all and keep you in his care during your time of sorrow and always.

You displayed all the courage and bravery that a man could have. For this you paid the ultimate price.

I hope that the passage below will ease the pain and bring some closure to your family and friends.

I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm FREE
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at close of day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh,a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My lifes been full, I savored much.
Good friends,good times, a loved one's
touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief.
Don't lengthen it now with undone grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God wanted me now;
He set me Free

As we visit your city from Greece we happen to be here during sad times for all, because a hero fell while doing his duties. Your loss reminds me the loss of 3 of my Greek brothers in arms who also paid the ultimate price while performing their duties. Although thousand miles away, we cops are the same everywhere. You gave everything without asking for nothing in return. Rest my brother, your shift is finally over. We will see you again some day.
God Bless Sgt. Prendes and his family.
