Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Henry Prendes

I am sitting here watching the funeral procession from my computer. As a policemans daughter, I full remember the fears of always wondering whether he would be coming home at night. My thoughts and prayers are with you on this so very difficult day.

I'm a sister of a Henderson Police Leiutenant. My heart goes out to the family of Sergeant Prendes. This tragedy has made me stop and think even more than I usually do about what heroes these police officers really are. It's also made me appreciate my brother even more and respect him more than I have have before. God Bless Sgt Prendes and his family. We all owe you very much and your legacy will live forever. "As the winds swept by our fallen brother, I felt a gentle touch drift pass me. Upon a scent of flowers ever so mystical, I saw her, the Angel had come for my friend. Softly she touched him and his soul then arose. It was silent, as silent as the night. My brother was carried to his peace, Upon the wings of an Angel. And I smiled and cried no more, for God said to him, welcome my son."

During the early eighties I was the "mean dean" at Fremont Jr. High School.
In that position I dealt with the mischievous students and seldom got the opportunity to know any of the "good kids" who were seldom, if ever, referred to my office for discipline.
Not that case with Henry. Early on I became aware of what a fine young man he was. Always smiling, greeted me in the morning, got along with others and, to me, a great example to all the students enrolled at the school. He never saw the inside of my office.
During Valentine's Day celebration, Fremont elected a king and a queen for the annual school dance. Henry was a finalist and, as such, was reminded to attend the dance.
When the administration learned that he had indeed received the most votes, his mother was called to ask her to see that he attended the event, not informing her that Henry was to be crowned.
When it came time to crown the king, there was no Henry, so it was quickly decided to give the honor to the runner up.
Fifteen minutes before the dance was over, Henry arrived. He had been at baseball practice and showed up immediately afterwards, still in his practice attire, with his usual friendly smile and demeanour.
I felt so sad for Henry. I never knew if anyone told him that he was supposed to have been Sweetheart King, but I always greatly admired him for having his priorities in place. It was evident already, at that young age, that he put the needs of his team and others before his receiving this honor.
My heart goes out to his wife and daughters. May his example of a selfless young man forever be a guide to the girls as they continue on their paths of life.
I have said numerous rosaries for Henry and his family upon hearing of this horrible event. I will continue remembering them in the days to come.
Be of good cheer, he has won his final award: A place with Our Father in Heaven.
Sincerely,
Billie Kenney

Volunteering your life for the benefit of people you don’t even know. With out question walking into a war for humanity’s sake. Your beauty is recorded time immortal in ways unknown. Life times are spent by the greatest of men who never achieve such a profound beautiful level of human sacrifice. I love you so much. Your worth surpasses all that you serve. The universal energy and idea that is Christ is what you have accomplished. Thank you for what you did. From the spirit and idea that is America, We have the right to dream of heroes. You’re one of them.

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the father except through me". What a blessing that Sgt. Prendes knew the way home and Jesus was there waiting for him with open arms. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Sergeant Prendes, Loved Family, Friends and Community...

Your fellow officer said in your honor "I learned these things from Henry...
Never stop loving, no matter what...
Never stop caring, no matter what...
Never stop giving, no matter what..."

Your daughters reflect that beautiful life philosophy in their courageous appearances with local media.

As proud as we are of you and your and your fellow LVMPD members' unconditional fulfillment of your duties as our protectors, we, as a community can be proud of your daughters who reflect those qualities you instilled in them.

Thank you to you and your family for the gift of having you as part of our community.

As I remember your family in this time of sorrow, I reflect upon the days of high school that we attended (class of 1987). You were always looked upon a hero (especially with the football team) at Las Vegas High. You were a hero then and you will always be a hero in everyone's heart.

God bless you and may you serve the Lord in Heaven as you served the community in Las Vegas.

Sergeant Prendes, Thank you for making the most unselfish, heroic sacrifice to protect us from scum like Crump. The only positive coming out of this situation is knowing you'll be resting with God and he'll be sleeping with the devil in hell. God will watch over you now !!!
