Reflections for Sergeant Henry Prendes

"Greater Love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

Dawn, Brooke and Kylee; Henry was my first Sergeant when he got promoted. He showed myself, his squad, as well as everyone he knew or supervised how to be the best they could be. Through his life, friendship and actions we learned, laughed, played and sometimes cried. Henry taught us well and appreciated everything we did and accomplished, whether it be for ourselves, our family, our community or for the job. He made the ultimate sacrifice, and God summoned him home. Henry will never be forgotten by myself, my daughter or any other member of LVMPD. God Bless.
Rest in Peace HP

To the Pendes family, I don't even know where to begin. Even though it won't bring him back I can say that I am truly sorry for your loss. I don't understand why people do the things they do. I thank you for officer Pendes's service even though I didn't know him his loss hits close to the heart for me. God Bless you and your family.

AS LONG AS THE HEART REMEMBERS, THE LOVE ONE IS NOT REALLY GONE. IT IS WHEN THE HEART CLOSES IN UPON ITSELF THAT THE MEMORY BEGINS TO FADE. SGT. PRENDES DESERVES NO LESS THAN TO BE REMEMBERED AS LONG THE EARTH REVOLVES.

I wonder if you would be embarassed by all the fuss made about you today. You were more than a "Metro Cop", you were a born and raised Las Vegas boy who grew up and gave his all to his hometown. You are a local hero and deserved every tear shed for you. God Bless.

To the family of Sgt. Prendes and to the officers he worked with at LVMPD. I am visiting in Las Vegas and arrived to learn of this terrible incident. My deepest regret was that I did not have my uniform with me so that I could be present to pay my respects to Sgt. Prendes. I was able to stand in the median of the strip as the procession went by and I was able to watch the service on TV. I have been to too many funerals but this one was exceptional. Sgt Prendes touched many lives and he is clearly home with the Lord. His family was devoted to him as he was to them. I know that this has been a difficult week for everyone here go out to the members of this family and to my brothers and sisters in law enforcement. I regret that I can do no more than to write this reflection. God bless you all.

I still cannot believe that such a nice, generous man was taken from us. I did not know Sgt. Prendes personally, and I feel short changed that I never will. My family and I are so grateful for the officers of the law that serve and protect us everyday. We pray for his family, and take some comfort in knowing that he is definately an angel watching over all of us now. You were taken too soon, but we hope that you can continue your work in heaven.

What words can be said to put comfort and peace into our hearts? I can't find them. However, I have found that, just when I think there are no more tears, they magically reappear when I remember Henry's smile and goofiness...or things like a child outside the cemetery in a shirt that said, "God Bless You" or the numerous 6'/200lb men's shoulders moving slowly as they sobbed for their fallen friend.

I am not fond of funerals...I don't think most folks are. However, today was the most amazing service a person could imagine. It was a turnout of over 4000 people, a procession of over 1000 cars, and insurmountable kind words about a fallen Police Sergeant, husband, father, brother, son, mentor, Christian, and friend...It was a time for all of us to gather and celebrate the life of Henry, as he wanted. Though, the celebration was through tears, we still managed to find smiles, giggles, and anecdotes about Henry. I hope and pray that the camaraderie that has joined LVMPD employees with each other, other agencies, the community, and even the media, will remain. Let's not have to wait for another tragic event to bring us together, hand in hand! Love they neighbor every day!

Henry, thank you for giving of yourself in order that so many others might have a better life. To the Prendes family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I understand that you did not have to allow us to send him off with such splendor. I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone in saying I appreciate that. It really was beautiful and allowed me to grieve in a way that I have never been able to grieve before. Thank you for letting us share in giving him a hero's "till we meet again." (I don't want to say farewell...I believe we will meet again.

Sgt. Prendes you will be missed by your LEO brothers and sisters. As an officer who recently survived a shooting, I know there are no words to describe what happened. You acted with valor and bravery directly from your heart. I am truly grateful that you were protecting me and my family in our great City of Las Vegas. God Bless...We'll see you soon.

I am the daughter of a retired Sergeant with the Lake Havasu City, AZ Police Department, and the wife of a Battalion Chief with the Fort Mohave Mesa Fire Department in AZ.
I would like Sergeant Prendes's family to know that through these very hard times there are more people than they know praying for the family and friends.
Even though we are not residents of Las Vegas we still feel the loss of a "Brother."
There is one phrase that has brought comfort to me many times and I would like to share it with all that visit this web page.

"WITH GOD AS THE CAPTAIN OF OUR FATE, OUR BOAT MAY ROCK, BUT IT WILL NEVER SINK."

I hope that you can find peace in these words that have helped me so many times and I sat at home worring about my Dad and now my Husband.

May God bless and keep you all close.

Sergeant Henry Prendes

Seeing the many lives that you have touched during your short time here on earth, leaves me with such sadness, but with great hope too. Knowing that everything belongs to God in this world and that he has all the answers, as well as, being in complete control over his perfect plan for us helps me to understand it was time for you to go. Your work was complete for you fearlessly “walked the talk” by example for all of us to follow.

May we all move forward and carry with us in our hearts a part of the example you so unselfishly left behind for us to follow and share with the lives of others.

Thank you as you rest for eternity in God’s loving arms!

I just wanted to say God bless and thank you to Sgt. Prendes and all of the police officers who work so hard to keep our community safer. I wish to convey to the family of Sgt. Prendes that he will NOT be forgotten. My family and I honor everything that the police do and what they stand for. Just know that many people from all over today actually stopped and reflected at the cost that Sgt. Prednes paid and will be grateful always. I have a young son who has always called from his car seat " be safe " whenever he would hear a siren go by with an officer responding to yet another emergency in our town. Rest assured he already respects and honors what the hard working men and women of the L.V.M.P.D do day in and day out. May God bless and keep your family in this dark hour.

MY FAMILY AND I ARE SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR LOSS. I WAS SO MOVED WATCHING THE FUNERAL ON T.V. TODAY. I SAT AND WATCHED IT WITH MY TWO LITTLE BOYS AND TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THEM WHAT THEY WERE WATCHING AND THAT THERE POPPA WAS THERE TO HONOR AND PAY RESPECTS TO A POLICE MAN WHO PASSED AWAY. IM SURE THEY DIDNT UNDERSTAND BUT MY TWO YEAR OLD SEEMED TO SHOW EMOTION IN KNOWING THAT A POLICE MAN WAS HURT AND NOW THE POLICE MAN IS IN THE SKY WITH THE MOON AND STARS. IT ALMOST MADE IT SEEM LIKE EVERYONE SHOULD BE UP THERE. BUT WATCHING EVERYTHING ON T.V. TODAY MADE ME RESPECT AND LOVE EVERYTHING THAT MY FATHER AND EVERY OTHER POLICE OFFICER DOES FOR US AND TO SEE WHAT A CLOSE, TIGHT KNIT FAMILY POLICE OFFERS REALLY ARE. WE DID NOT KNOW YOUR DAD BUT WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT YOUR STRONG SPIRITS SHOWED THROUGH TODAY WATCHING YOU TALK ABOUT HIM AND THAT WE KNOW HE WOULD HAVE BEEN SO PROUD. WE WERE! AS SAD AS IT MAY SEEM, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FATHER I THINK MADE EVERYONE ALOT MORE PROUD TO BE PART OF THE LVMPD FAMILY.

My prayers are with you and your family. Thank you and God Bless.

He is Gone
You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Sergeant Prendes,
Although I am no longer with Metro, your death has hit me hard. The brotherhood that is Metro is something that some just won't understand. There is a relationship there that goes beyond the badge. As a brother in Christ I know with my heart that you are with Him standing next to His throne. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price with his blood to save us from eternal death and in return has given us eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Your faith in Jesus has been passed on to your wife and lovely girls. My heart is filled with joy because of the strength and faith they displayed today. I will always pray for them. You will always be missed and loved. I will see you someday in Heaven and will give you a well deserved hug. Your Brother in Christ!!!!
