I went to a call today that revolved around a man and his wife of many years. The wife had terminal cancer which was ravenging her body and she only had a short time to live.

I talked to the man for quite a while and during the conversation he told me that him and his wife just started to pray together and attend church. When I asked what church he stated the one that Sgt. Prendes went too.

He went on to say that even though he never met Henry he was very moved by the many stories he saw and read about him. He said that Henry reached out and touched him, and that is when he felt the need to come closer to God.

Even in death Sgt. Prendes is still changing people's lives.

It's weird how life works. After meeting Henry in high school, we meet again years later in the academy. My fondest memory will be kicking each other under the table to keep awake during a lecture. I'll miss running into you on events and catching up on things. My prayers are with your family and your squad members.
God Bless...

In darkness silence of the night,
when all appeared safe and secure.
What this officer had no way of knowing,
he was beginning his shift of last tour.

Should have been a routine traffic stop,
he advised them not to exit their car.
However they had nothing left to lose,
and the shots could be heard from afar.

Things then became so very personal,
as his lifeless body lay on the ground.
Then yoy heard the words that stand still,
"start me a rescue unit, Officer down".

A mist of glow befell upon the scene,
the Archangel in spiritual radiance shone.
Watching over those in the uniform of blue,
they are his charges, children of the throne.

While you never took the time to meet him,
our heavenly Father knows them all by name.
Their honor, integrity, courage and pride,
though none ever sought any glorious fame.

On bended knee, his head bowed low,
throught tears that had come and gone.
Micheal gathered this Officer in his arms,
slowly begin the Ascension's journey on.

There at heaven's magnificent gate,
was God, waiting for this soul to embrace.
"Welcome home my son, my first Police Officer,
come now and walk with me in eminent grace".

To the family and friends of Sgt. Henry Prendes and to his fellow officers with the Las Vegas Metro Police Dept:

My heart was saddened to learn of another horrific crime that took the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Sgt. Prendes was brutally murdered.

To the officers who were with Sgt. Prendes on 2/1: My heart goes out to all of you. I know that you all went through a terrible ordeal which seared your hearts and souls forever. My own son was killed on 4/24/05 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, and his friends sheltered him, shielded him, and did everything to rescue him as they were being fired at by the murderous thug that killed my son. Please know that Sgt. Prendes' loved ones will always cherish you for being there for him. I know because I cherish my angels. I salute the valor and courage each of you displayed.

To his family: May you be comforted by the support and warm embrace of the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement, and other police survivors who share this painful journey with you. Sgt. Prendes is a true hero whose bravery and dedication to protecting the citizens of Nevada will not be forgotten.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Sgt. Prendes gave to his community and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 1, 2006.
