Retired First Sergeant Thomas Webb

I did not have the opportunity to meet SA Boss, but understand he was a great man and a dedicated Agent. He was remembered recently at an annual event by the USPS-OIG. I am sure he is missed by all who knew him.

Rest peacefully Greg. Your memory lives and continues to inspire.

A tragic loss. May your killer never see freedom and may you forever remain in the hearts and minds of those you left behind; I'm sure you have.

God Bless, Brother and may your eternal rest remain peaceful.

Over three and one-half years have passed since Greg was taken from us and with each day we give thanks for the precious time we did have with him. He was a friend, a fellow law enforcement officer who was always there for his fellow agents, and an exemplary man who on a daily basis demonstrated kindness, compassion, and a caring nature towards others by the way he lived his life, both personally and professionally. Although our hearts will always be saddened by this tremendous loss, he will always be missed and loved. When I sit down with my kids to talk about the trials and tribulations of life, positive role models, honor, integrity, decency, wholesome values, top-notch law enforcement officers I have worked with, respect and caring for others, I tell them, let me tell you a story about Greg Boss.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Greg,
You were the person I wished I could be.
Your character was truly astonishing. Your sound upbringing provided you with integrity that made you an inspiration to all that new you.
You were always so bright.
I remember asking you how your schooling was going when you attended Metro State College and how you were doing grade wise. You reluctantly told me you were going to graduate with a nearly perfect 4.0 G.P.A. I said wow, do you realize how impressive that is? Your response to me was that you were not that smart, you just tried harder than most! I said if that's the case you should be even more impressed with yourself. You laughed and then you changed the subject quickly. I have learned so much from you.
You were a phenomenal man and I miss you every day!
Dave.
