Reflections for Police Officer Francis J. "Frank" Hennessy

While it is no consolation for your loss, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer Hennessy.

While no member of our agency had the privilege to have known him personally, we are certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.

Rest in peace officer; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Words can not say enough but, we mourn another hero that has been taken from us. My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers. May the Lord give you strength and bless each of you during this time. Remember these few verses taken from the KJB. In I Samuel 20:3 it says, And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly [as] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, [there is] but a step between me and death. And in Philippians 1:21 it says, For to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.

Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.
Amen.

Frank, rest easy brother, we have the watch.

They do not get paid for what they do every day, they get paid for what they might have to do some day. As Frank did just that, lest we forget his service, his devotion, his family. Tell your friends and family that you love them in Frank's honor.

Frank, It was my sincere honor to have known and worked with you. I will always remember the time in the 70 and the week we spent at the Republican Convention.
I cannot find the words to say to tell anyone who reads this except to say that you were simply the best, and will be truly missed by all. I'll always stop by Farrel's just to have one for you. May God Bless You and your family now and always.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all...
I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
And if my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss...
Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
My life's been full, I've savoured much:
Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—
Don't shorten yours with undue grief.
Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.

We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Officer Hennessy. As a person who now lives in the MIdwest, but who grew up in Brooklyn and worked on Flatbush Avenue, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Officer Hennessy and the job he performed on a daily basis. Our beloved brother and brother-in-law was taken from us and his wife and two small children last October. The upcoming times will be impossibly difficult and you will all need each other now more than ever before. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Brother Hennessy,

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Respectfully,
You’re Brothers in Blue
