At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Today, January 8, 2006 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Officer Richard May who died in the line of duty just yesterday.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Officer May's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I want to send my condolences to the family and the East Palo Alto Police department regarding the death of Officer Richard May. Another 'thug' walking the streets with a gun has committed such a cowardly act and killed my brother. I hope the person responsible is caught, and given the strictest punishment available by law. I hope the family and his department continues to remember this officer's bravery and courage, and the legacy in which he left. Officer May your shift is over now, we will take it from here. Rest in peace, brother...
