Reflections for Patrol Officer James F. Knapp

In this month of memorials and remembering, I just wanted to Thank you again for all that you have given us. Time may pass but you are never far from our thoughts. Grace told me one day that she was making it "day by day- sometimes second by second" but you better then any of us know that she is a strong lady, with you watching over her she will make it. The pain never really leaves,... the love just grows stronger and over comes it.

Grace,

Words cannot express how sorry I am. I know this is a long time coming. Ive been working out of Dist 1, but every so often I'm assigned to Markham. I have wanted to come and visit you since last year....and Im sorry I dont have a justifiable reason as to why I havnt.

I was assigned at Dist. 5 that horrible day. Believe me when I say that you and your husband have been in my thoughts. I didnt know Jim personally, but I know he was a good man and made you happy. You have always been a excellent superior and friend to talk to. Im grateful for your wisdom, your motherly advice, and most of all your personal ethics you've shown me. I have been going through some trying times lately in my life, but what I always remember is the motto you had told me once before..."Never give them rope to hang you with."...and Im tryin not to LT. Please accept my apologies, and my deepest sympathies on ur loss. May God bless you and may Jim's memory be eternal.

Your friend,
Sol

My deepest sympathy to the Knapp family. I know your pain and the long road you will have ahead of you. I ask that the Sheriff's department remember his family and also not to forget his parents. Any officers or wives that may read this reflection, be sure you always hug your police officer before they leave for work. Also, officers hug your wife and children and tell them you love them before you leave the house for work. Jim, keep special watch over your family. Wrap your wings around them and protect them from harm and help ease some of their grief. You are a ture hero and will never be forgotten. Thank you for your dedicated service in a job that many would like to have but could never do as it takes a special person, like you.

To the family and friends of Officer James Knapp and to his fellow officers of the Cook County Sheriff's Police Dept.:

I was so saddened to learn of the tragic death of this dedicated officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Officer Knapp was tragically killed in the line of duty.

May you be comforted and supported by the warm embrace of your law enforcement family, and by other police survivors who share your painful journey.

To his wife and childen, my heart goes out to you. I am glad that Bobby is using this site to leave messages for his father. I have found this to be a source of comfort and wonderful way to communicate with my beloved son since his brutal murder during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of distinquished service Officer Knapp gave to his community and the citizens of Illinois, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on January 4, 2006.
