Trooper Jackson,
I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Texas. And to your family, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. I am a Border Patrol Agent stationed here in Texas and everytime we come into contact with DPS, they're always professional and treat us good.

B.J.,

We're all so proud of you for giving up the holiday with your family to help keep others safe. For you, the day turned out great. The rest of us will now struggle until we catch up to you. Thank you for your life, your honor, and your great service. Staying behind is worse than being in harms way. Thank you to the family for the gift of your loved one, all your worry, and for putting up with all the hardships of supporting a Trooper. You are the real Troopers.

I'm sure the family and friends of Billy don't realize how big the DPS family really is. Only an hour after Billy was injured, we were getting phone calls from communications. Troopers & other law officers everywhere started praying for Billy, his wife and daughter, and his friends. I did not know you personally but you are my brother in law enforcement. Thank you for your service to our State and agency. I hope your friends can take comfort that you will now be their R2 Angel. Rest now, we will all be together again one day. My prayers are with Billy's family. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

To the family, co-workers, and loved ones of Tpr. Zachary: I am so sorry that this terrible event had to come about in your lives. My wife and I are both police officers in different departments in New England, and we have lost three of our brother and sister officers in less than eleven months, all horribly murdered. I can't tell you what it takes to get up and face each day, knowing it will be filled with pain and a deep sense of loss. I don't know how we have doe that over the past year, and continue to do so, we just do. I just know you must also. You must get up each day and live your lives to keep the memory of Bill alive and to help each other through this most difficult of times. Nothing hurts like losing a close friend without warning, and nothing will replace the memories of the times you had with him. The important thing is to remember him to those who did not have the pleasure of knowing him, and continue on for the people in your lives who still depend on you. God bles you all, we understand your pain all too well. Another good man lost...

It's unfortunate that Trooper Billy Jack Zachary is the first officer killed in the line of duty in 2006. I send my condolences to the family and the Texas Department of Public Safety-Texas Highway Patrol. I hope they continue to remember this trooper's bravery and courage, and the legacy in which he leaves. Trooper Zachary your shift is over now, we will take it from here. Rest in peace, brother...

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Our brother/brother-in-law (Sgt. Jonathan Dragus) was recently taken from us (10/20/05). His youngest child was only 5 months old. Please be certain that everyone who knew him and loved him will contribute to that child knowing what a hero and great person its father was.

No amount of words from any of us can ease your grief and suffering at the lost of your husband, father and bother officer. But remain strong in your faith and know god as a plan for us all. Take comforted in knowing we will all see Billy again when we walk the streets of heaven. Every law enforcement agency across the country feels you’re lost as well, we to have lost a bother in the fight. So it’s with a heavy heart we send our deepest sympathy to your family and the Texas Highway Patrol. My god blesses you and your family. Rest in peace and know you will never be forgotten.
