The Policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church, have you been true?"
The Policeman squared his shoulders and
said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times, my talk was rough...
and sometimes, I've been violent
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny
that wasn't mine to keep,
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times, I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much.
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne where the saints often trod.
As the Policeman waited quietly
for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, Policeman.
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."

Another trooper has been needlessly taken from us. He died a hero. The world is a lesser place without him, and another family has to find the strength to go on, without him. How many times does it have to happen until the people of this country start to take care of us, the way we take care of them?!

The saddest thing is that your daughter will never truly get to know her Daddy, but I know you'll be there for her forever, whenever she needs some inspiration. My heart goes out to your wife as well. She only had you a short time, but you'll be with her as well. Highway tragedies can sometimes be avoided, sometimes they can't, but thanks to Troopers like Billy Zachary, we're all just a bit safer out there.
God Bless and Rest in Peace.

BJ Zachary, Trooper-TX Highway Patrol:
I have met you, but did not know you well, your time with us was so brief. You are my brother in Texas Tan trimmed in Red and Blue. The thin blue trim represents the Thin Blue Line of law enforcment officers, and the Red trim and patch represent the blood of men who have paid the high price to serve and protect the lives, rights, privileges, and property of the people of the State of Texas and this country. You have done your job well, and we are so proud of you.
Tara and Zoe will be in our prayers and our minds always. They have been a part of a larger family in DPS and they will continue to be a part of our family.
God speed you home,
Your work here is done.
Hang up your hat,
And lay down your gun.
You've worked that old road,
And given it your best.
It's time to go home now,
Go home and rest.
Don't worry about the radio
Or that old black and white.
We'll check you 10-42, brother
We love you, and good night.
