Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Robert Nguyen

Rob,
It truly has been an honor to have known you and been a part of your life. I am so proud of all that you had accomplished in such a short period of time. I am truly blessed to have had you as a friend. I will never forget all the late night talks we had till the sun came up, all the times you greeted me with your captivating smile and catch phrase "Hey Sweetie!" You have left an impression in my heart that will never be erased. Not only were you a true and honest friend, you were family.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your life. Thank you for letting me be your friend. Most of all, thank you for being one of the few beautiful people in this world. I will miss you terribly.

You will always be my Woobie...
R.I.P

Condolences to the Nguyen family for their loss. My heart and prayers are with all of you.

Rob,
Your love touched the lives of many and your smile brightened every door you walked through. May you rest in peace knowing that you'll forever be loved and never forgotten.

May the Nguyen family and all those who knew Rob find comfort and peace in the memories of a beautiful life lived.

I had the pleaseure of working with Rob for over 2 years. From the moment Sgt. Mendez and I saw him, we knew he was special and one of a kind. Robert taught a squad of veterans more than we could teach him. We were all sorry to see Rob leave the squad, but knew we couldn't keep such a talented officer tied to the unit. There is not enough room on the internet for me to express the love I had for this young man who was like the son I never had. Rob was a buddhist and a Buddhist saying "We have it wrong, we should celebrate death and mourn birth because death is the end of the struggle."

You made me feel like family every time I saw you.
You had that boyish charm that was undeniable.
All of the things I already knew about you was affirmed this morning by your fellow officers.
I will honor your memory in my heart.

"til we meet again.

Rob,

I am at a loss for words. The last time I seen you was last year. I feel terrible for what has happened. I keep saying to me self, why didn't we keep in touch. Thoughts of you have always been in my mind. I remember all of the fun times that we shared. You were always there for me. You even defnded me before you were even a cop. You took it upon yourself to help me out when I needed it. Your job was really for you. All that you did day in and day out in your life before you were even a cop. And all you did when you were. You are and always be someone special in my heart. I will remember you always. God bless you and you family. Thoughts of you can never be forgotten or replaced.

Even though we lost touch over the years, we saw each other a couple of months ago, and you still stopped and talked with me for awhile. You had such a big heart. I can still remember your smile and those dimples. You will be missed. Rest in peace, Rob.

REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but a two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

I THOUGHT ABOUT LEAVING A REFLECTION SOONER, BUT THERE ARE NO WORDS THAT CAN DESCRIBE THE PAIN, SORROW, LOVE, AND PLEASURE OF KNOWING. THE FEW BUT TRUE TIMES THAT WE HAD TOGETHER, GOING OUT AND HAVING A GREAT TIME, WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBER. UR NOT ONLY A COWORKER, BUT IN MY EYES, UR A HERO AND A TRUE FRIEND. THE ONLY BRITE SIDE OF NOT HAVING HERE IS THAT UR IN A MUCH BETTER PLACE. SO SAD TO HAVE U GO SOOO SOON. BLESS UR WARM HEART, FLY WITH THE ANGELS, AND MAY GOD AND U GIVE US ALL STRENGTH AND KEEP US SAFE. I MISS U DEARLY. REST IN PEACE BROTHER ROB.

You will be missed

January 5, 2006

As our lives changed through the years, we saw much less of each other, however, when we did see each other, it was as if we were together just yesterday. Rob, you were a great friend and part of the family. To CJ, you were known as and will always be remembered as "Cool Uncle Rob". We will miss your sense of humor, your great personality, that smile and of course those dimples. You were always one to live life to the fullest and we'll always love you for that. You are one of a kind and we will never forget you.

Love, Jimmy, Sarah, JR, CJ & Kayla

I had the honor on meeting Rob on two occasions. Once while filming a documentary on him and his colleagues as they made it through the police academy and another time as he was the first officer on the scene when my car got flooded. I didn't know him personally but I can tell you from the little time we spent with him, he was a natural born leader who truly loved being a police officer.

Quote from Rob shortly after 9/11:

"The fact that I didn’t think about risking my own life, I think it’s not a issue to me. I remember hearing 200 firefighters lost their lives in the rescue, EMT workers, 78 police officers. And it made me sad. And I think, like, in a situation of if that happened, if I responded, that’s just my job. And I think that’s why I took this up, this actual profession."

Rob,

Words cannot describe the feeling of emptiness I have. I am still in shock. Thinking back to all our basketball games and vacations, it makes me miss you even more. I remember when you told me how proud you were to be Vietnamese. I hope you can see how proud the city is of you. Rest in Peace.
