Today I bare a heavy heart for this Pennsylvania hero. I was fortunate to spend 24 years of my 34 years of life growing up and living in Western Pennsylvania before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to join the police officer realm. I am a Pennsylvania State Trooper. A soldier of the law. To me is entrusted the honor of the force. I must serve honestly, faithfully, and if need be, lay down my life as others have done before me, rather than swerve from the path of duty. It is my duty to obey the law and to enforce it without any consideration of class, color, creed, or condition. It is also my duty to be of service to anyone who may be in danger or distress, and at all times so conduct myself that the honor of the force may be upheld.
My brother, your memory goes on with the fellow Troopers who recite and live these words.

I know no words can take away your pain right now, but to both the family and brothers and sisters of Corporal Pokorney, our hearts and prayers are with you. We lost an officer earlier this year in a similar situation, and Officer Uribe's brothers and sisters in blue hunted down his killers and brought peace to David. We are convinced that he had a hand in it, guiding them along the way, and keeping them safe as they went door to door searching under every rock for the low lifes who did this. I am sure that, while you all search for Corp. Pokorney's killers, he too, will be with you, guiding you and keeping you safe.
Good luck and God Speed...we are with you.

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

I was on duty as a dispatcher when the message came across LEADS regarding the death of Corporal Pokorney. It is always heartbreaking when an officer loses his life in the line of duty, but even more so at this time of year.
My sincerest condolences to Corporal Pokorney's family and friends.
