It has taken me this long to figure out what to write. You were one of my husband's dearest friends. You were always there for him and you kept pushing him to always do his best at everything he did. His heart has been broken by your death. The morning the accident happened he called me and couldn't even get it out of his mouth that you had been killed. You were such a good friend to him. I didn't realize how much he loved you until that Monday morning. I even kinda liked you too, though I hid it very well. When we all would get together you would always make me feel like one of the guys. I will miss all of the Oliff stories my husband use to come home with. You were one of his mentors. You will be greatly missed by myself and my husband. Rest in peace your brothers have your watch now. Love always

My Brothers and Sisters, we have all sworn to perform our duties, impartially and without hesitation or fear. Our present duty, and though it be painful, is to pay a just and deserving tribute of honor to a Brother or Sister who has embarked upon that lone journey which leads through the valley of the great shadow into the sunlight of perpetual day and lasting tranquility.
These feeble but heart-felt words can do little more than remind us of the duty which we owe to our departed friend and colleague.
As he was ever faithful to us in the full performance of his task and the protection of those who slept, so let us be, my Brothers, faithful to him, ever zealous to protect and cherish the memory of his good deeds, forgetting his imperfections, and emblazoning his accomplishments.
As time runs on, in sun and shade, may we bear with us ever-pleasant memories of a hallowed friendship, a kindly feeling, and a deep respect for all our Brother stood for. As an indication of our regard and affection, let us pause and, in silent meditation, typify what mere words cannot express.
Let us pray:
Almighty God, be with us on this occasion. Strengthen us in a firm resolve to do right, to serve well, to be faithful to our tasks, to our community, and to our Brothers. Make us appreciative of the opportunities to do good and to lend a helping hand. Inspire us with a new devotion to fulfill the duties, which are entrusted to our keeping. May those who mourn be comforted in this sad hour, and may they be strengthened by the knowledge of Thy presence and Thy omnipotence.
May we be constantly reminded in the hours of the night, as well as in the brightness of the day, of Thy everlasting love and kindness, and may Thou guide us through this uncharted valley and bring us at last to the shore of the eternal stream, our ranks unbroken, to dwell with Thee forever more. We ask this humbly through Thy redeeming grace and power. Amen.

Reality

Imagine how our world would be
If every police officer quit
Turned in their gun, turned in their badge,
Just finally had enough of it.

No respect, no loyalty,
No appreciation of all they do,
They’d give their lives for all of us,
These wonderful officers of “Blue”.

Kicked at, spit on,
Punched, stabbed and shot,
Everyday assaults on officers,
Done…without thinking a second thought!

Our laws are in favor of criminals,
There’s always some loophole in their case,
Out again to commit more crimes and murders
…creates pain, that we, the family and friends
…in time will never erase.

Why should they do it?
Why take the risk?
Why put their life on the line?
Subject their loved ones to endless suffering,
When their precious life is lost while fighting crime.

More murders, more kidnappings, more robberies and rapes,
Just to mention a few,
Please ask yourself how life would be,
If there were NO officers in Blue!

Would you do it? Could you do it?
And for how many…would YOU give it all?
Rewards are a 21 gun salute, a Medal of Honor,
And your name gets added to the Wall.

Think about it. Why are they here?
And why do some hate them so?
Because they enforce the laws that put convicts and murderers
In jail serving time, or on “Death Row”.

All give some and some give all,
It’s a risk they chose to take:
To put their heart and soul in it,
To put their lives at stake.

So, please take a moment,
Please give it deep thought,
Think of what “you can do”…

To help show respect,
To help follow the laws,
So we’d quit losing our Heroes in Blue!

I learned something while i was in the sheriff's dept the honor of the badge. Oliff you gave honor and pride to the badge and you will be missed my me. I want thank you for teaching me things that i will take with me. When i found out that you passed away i was just in shock cause i worked with you. I know god is taking good care of you and i will see you in the end. GOD BLESS THE OLIFF FAMILY AND OTHER DEPUTIES IN THE SHERIFF'S DEPT THAT PASSES AWAY.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, hard punches, an uncanny flair for investigation, and wise judgement. Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers, and impervious to temptations. You know, St. Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the policeman's lot on Earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration. And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God, as we have been to guard the city of men. Amen.

My sincere and deepest condolences to you all for the loss of a great man. May you find comfort in the memories you shared with Jason, knowing that a part of him will always remain in the hearts of those he loved.

To Jason's Fiancee,
My heart goes out to you. I know the horrible pain you bear. I was engaged to Deputy Sheriff Joshua Blyler (EOW: 5.2.04), who was killed last year in an on duty automobile accident. I know and understand the pain of losing the person you love most in this world. You are not alone. I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your beloved Jason. The plans we made for our future are not what we expected...it's such a painful road. But, you are not in this alone. There is a grief group for fiancees/significant others that has been started by Monica, who was engaged to Scott Stewart (EOW: 8.11.02). You are welcome in our group. Rest in Peace, Brother. Thank you for your service and sacrifice- they will never be forgotten.
As I read through the reflections left by those who were fortunate enough to know you, serve with you and love you, it becomes evident that you were one of the "angels among us" mentioned in a country song. With the messages left from your comrades, I feel the pain of the hole in my heart opening and all I can do is remember the pain of losing family and a brother-in-arms. Time has since helped that hole to close a little and the pain is gone, but I realized as I went through the grief how fortunate I was to have loved someone so much. You are truly a hero, not only because you sacrificed your life in the service to your community, but because you lived your life in a way that you will forever be remembered as "a real good guy" and someone who helped others to be better people.

Ride on the shoulders of your family of blue as they continue their battle here. Help your fiancee to find comfort in knowing that you are Home and nothing can ever hurt you again. Let her have strength to get through the Holidays without your physical presence.

I remember the first time i met you,it was when we attended police academy together back in January 2003.You were in the night class and I was days and there was not one time that I can recall that you didn't shake my hand and say "what's up Land" while we were on our way out of class, and always with a smile on your face, and from then on I knew you were a true friend,not knowing that one day we would meet again after we graduated a little more than two years later with me getting on with the Sheriff's Office.I remember being trained on A-row my first week when you had brought a subject in and saw me and said "what's up Land" along with your friendly hand shake.It was really good to see you that night because you were a familiar face which eased my nerves of being the new guy.Jason,you will be truly and deeply missed by myself and the rest of your fellow deputies and staff.Not only were you a good friend and a good person, but you were a brother to all of us.
