Reflections for Officer Henry "Hank" Nava, Jr.

Rest in peace blue angel. We will take your watch from here.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for this great loss. I have many friends that work for Fort Worth. I didn't know Officer Nava that well, but I did share some moments with him at the gym that we worked out at. He was a very nice guy with a smile on his face all the time. I spoke briefly with him about law enforcement and working out. I can remember one time when he injured his shoulder in the gym, but you can believe that it didn't keep him out too long. Everybody at the Hulen Health Club will surely miss him. Officer Nava was an a good guy, true to his family and profession. He will be grealty missed by all.

"Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Matt 5:4
It is especially difficult to grasp God's grace, mercy, justice, and love when a loved one is taken. But, be encouraged by His promises to His children.
"Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you." Ps 50:15
"He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds." Ps 147:3
Jesus came "to bind up the brokenhearted...to comfort all that mourn...to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness" Isaiah 61:1-3
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand." Ps 37:23,24
"He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces." Isaiah 25:8
"But the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever, Amen." 1Pet 5:10,11
Our department and community is going to miss Hank very much. He meant a great deal to us all as his character reflected his calling. I will always remember Hank greeting everyone with his mischievious smile, which made you think he was up to something, but actually reflected the joy in his heart. We will look forward to a joyous reunion with him in heaven.
"Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever, Amen."

I wept as I slipped on the small black band over the badge I proudly wear. This is the second time in as many weeks we will morn a fallen brother in the Dallas area. I so hoped for a miracle for Off. Nava and his family. We know it was not meant to be and that God has a plan we can never understand.

God Bless the Nava family and the Fort Worth Police Department. You will never be forgotten brother. Rest in Peace and know that we have the watch here.

You are a true hero!!!

Whenever I think about Hank the first thing that comes to mind is his ever present, playful smile, and the spark in his eyes. He was always busy, but never too busy to be a friend, or to help someone.

Hank had an overwhelming energy and enthusiasm for life and police work. He truly loved being a police officer and he was the epitome of professionalism in law enforcement.

The one thing that Hank loved more than his job was his family. Hank ADORED his wife and kids. He always had a story to share about them and you could see and feel his love for them as he spoke.

It was a privilege and a pleasure to serve with Hank. He left an indelible mark in the live's of so many and we will miss him sorely.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who unlocked your car after you accidentally locked the keys and your baby up at the mall.
I was the one who gave you a ride to the gas station when you ran out of gas on that back road.
I was the one who changed your tire because you couldn't figure out how to work the stupid scissor jack.
I was the one who directed you safely through that busy intersection when the traffic signals weren't working.
I was the one who gave you a jump-start after you left your lights on.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who found the item that identified the guy who raped your daughter.
I was the one who spent my days off in court to testify and help convict the man who beat your son so badly.
I was the one who located your grandmother in the woods that night when it was 22 degrees and she had wandered away from the nursing home.
I was the one who loaned you the raincoat the night we stood and watched your house burn.
I was the one who talked with you for two hours about your son running away from home.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who held your hand, wiped the blood out of you eyes, and calmed you down while the Fire Department cut you out of what was left of your car.
I was the one who called you at 2 a.m. to come pick up your 16 year old daughter because she had been drinking too much.
I was the one who knocked on your door at 4 a.m. to let you know your 16 year old daughter would never be coming home again.
I was the one who did CPR on your 3 year old after you found him in the pool.
I was the one who helped deliver your new baby when you didn't quite make it to the ER.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who got that snake out of your bathroom around midnight.
I was the one who got my knees and elbows scraped up fighting with the shoplifter with your carton of cigarettes.
I was the one who took your son for a "ride-along" so he could see what it was really like.
I was the one who gave you the right directions so you wouldn't miss that business meeting.
I was the one who stopped you to let you know your right rear tire was going flat.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who escorted your son's funeral procession from the church to the cemetery and cried behind my sunglasses because he was my friend, too.
I was the one watched over your place while you were on vacation.
I was the one who worked for you on Christmas Day so you could be off with your family.
I was the one who joked around with you after your truck got hit by a train and you walked away without a scratch.
I was the one was able to talk your husband into going into counseling with you.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who got shot when I pulled over a car for a traffic violation and the driver turned out to be an escaped convict who had sworn he would never go back to prison.
Oh, by the way, my memorial service is at 2 p.m.

Will you remember me now?

I will remember you!! RIP
